Ensonic Sound Card

Does anybody use an Ensonic sound card while playing NASCAR or INDYCAR
I or II? I understand they come in GW2000 machines.(?) My neighbor is
thinking of buying one (the card), and wants to be sure it will work
OK. I seem to recall some posts here from people having problems, but
can not find the posts.

Thanks in advance

Mike

I would advise him not to get it.  Tell him to just get the basic
SoundBlaster 16 that Gateway offers.  Then add a Roland SC-10 or SC-15
(about $150-200)add on wavetable daughter card.  This way you have no
compatibility problems and the same wavetable card that most software
companies use to write the midi scores for their games.  This means that
you end up hearing the sound how it was meant to be heard, not how
another Sound Card company thinks that you should hear it.  The card
snaps right onto the SB.

i have the card with my p-75 and it doesn't work with indycar 1
properly. You get about half the sounds and all the wrong ones like
car hitting wall. No engine noise.

However indycar 2 works just fine all the pit lane sounds and correct
engine noise. I would say buy it as i have tried a few cards like the
awe32 and teh gravis ultra and i think the ensonic is fine in
comparason. Fine for the serious gamer anyway.

Hope this helps

The Ensoniq Soundscape sounds great and is supported in native mode for
NASCAR and INDYCAR II. This means you will hear the sound as Papyrus
Engineers have decided it should be heard.
IMHO, the Ensoniq Soundscape is a much better performing card than
SoundBlaster 16 due to the better signal to noise ratio of the output
amp, and the better channel separation. I have both the SoundBlaster 16 and
the Ensoniq Soundscape Elite.

As for Ensoniq and IndyCar I, they don't work together :(

Mines worked fine with Nascar, and Indycar I and II.  Hope it does
the same with F1GP2!  I got the little Altec speaker system w/ sub
with my GW2K and it's not a bad package - I'm sure there's better
though if you want to spend the money!

Mike, i was one of the people having problems. in the end it was only
with two games (falcon3 and icr) that i had problems. with all other
games the sound was fine on sb emulation, and incredible on games with
ensoniq support (all the latest games including icr2). also the altec
speakers with the sub woofer are excellent. Ensoniq has native support
in windows95 and i get excellent sound with no hitches.

BTW apparantly in icr 1 if you pause the game while accelerating through
the sixty mph region then unpause you get sound but i already had icr2
so never bothered to try.

my sister has a machine with sb16 and listening to dark forces playing
through the sb and then my ensoniq was like listening to am radio (sb16)
and then going to a concert (ensoniq).
