Wide-screen laptop OK for NR2003?

by Dave Bradle » Sat, 01 May 2004 04:06:36

I'm planning to do some extended traveling this summer and I would like to
keep feeding my habit of TA racing using NR2003 whilst on the road.  The
emachines M6805 is looking mighty attractive right now from a
cost/performance standpoint.  It has a wide-screen display (1200 X 768).
Does anyone have any experience running NR2003 on such a display?  Would it
be a matter of adjusting FOV or such-like?

The laptop has an Athlon 64 processor at 1.8 GHz and a Radeon mobile 9600
video chip so I'm thinking it has more than enough power to run the sim at
acceptable frame rates, I'm just concerned about the compatibility of the
S/W with this display aspect ratio.

Any thoughts you guys may have on this would be appreciated.  Thanks

Dave,

I'm running a Widescreen LCD on my desktop. 1280x768. The nascar 2k3
3dconfig allows me to choose any resolution that the windows desktop can
be set to, on my system this doesn't include 1200x768 (that not quite
the same 16:9 wide screen). However in 1280x768 n2k3 plays great. The in
race displays are full screen (i.e the 3d engine, menus are still 4:3)
and it seems so show a massive FOV. Adjusting this doesn't nothing in
widescreen mode. If u need to screen grab just yell.
