Precision Potentiometers (TM F1/Nas Pro)

I desperately need to replace the steering pot for my TM F1 (nas pro in US)

Having done a bit of research it seems that conductive polymer pots are the
answer. After a lot of searching I have found some "precision" conductive
polymer pots available in the UK that are rated for 10million cycles.

One in particular seems pretty much ideal but for two things.....

The highest resistance the pot is available in is 50k .......  I know that
the original TM pot was 250k and a lot of wheel pots are 100k so I
wonder....

<<>>Will a 50k pot work at all?
<<>>Are there any disadvantages in using a lower resistance?

<<>>The shaft of the pot is metal rather than plastic .... has anyone had a
problem fitting replacement pots with metal shafts to their TM F1/nas pro ?

I know to make sure the new pots are linear, that they have the right shaft
size and have a large enough rotation angle, but are there any others things
I need to be aware of (such as power rating)?
The pots themselves cost 9.50 each ... plus another 5 for delivery so I'm
really keen to make sure I get the right ones first time!!

I have included the spec of the pots at the end of this posting

If anyone can give me advice about replacement pots or tell me whether the
ones I have chosen are ok ... I'll be very grateful :)

I also have one other related question...

A previous post to this NG said that the pedal pots in the TM F1/nas pro are
different to the steering pot. From memory they said that they are 100k but
most significantly only have a 30degree angle of rotation. This is because
the design of the pedals mean the pot is only turned 25degrees or so from
zero throttle to full throttle.

<<>>Would the 360degree 50k pots I have picked out for the steering be
suitable to use to replace these pedal pots, or would I be better off with
something different?

Hopefully once I sort out these pots I'll gain another 12months use from my
much loved, very well used but very fragile wheel :)

thanks in advance :)

Hi Marc!

I have a TM F1 too and use the Spectrol pot in the wheel for a month and
am very satisfied with it (for the use in the pedals I can say nothing
about it, I still have the original ones in ;)).
The fitting of this pots is a bit tricky because a) you have to shorten
the shaft alot and it's made of metal and b) the shaft is a little too
thick (about 0.35 mm). If you have a high speed tool like a Dremel or
something, then it's no problem. You can shorten the shaft with a
diamond edged disc and make two slits into the fitting of the wheel so
that you can widen it a bit. Send me an email if you need a more
detailed solution ;).
The pots are worth the efforts!
