Mip Flashing in F1-2001

Mip Flashing in F1-2001

Just curious...

I'm getting what I'd consider too much mip flashing in F1-2001 (about twice
as much as I get in GPL).  Is this the norm?
"Yes"...I have installed the EA patch.

I'm suspicious of my current DX install....and possibly Riva Turner not
working properly.  But, even so when I go into GPL the flashing is half what
it is in F1-2001.

Specs:

GF3 (23.11)
AMD 1.6
512 MB PC2100 RAM
21" Sony
MSI K7 Master (mobo - AMD northbridge)
Win98SE
IE 6.0
DX 8.1

I'm running F1-2001 at the same settings (and screen res) as GPL, which is:
1600x1200 (x16bit) in D3D.  FPS is from 45 to 65....depending on track and
location (lowest in the pit garage).  Comparison, I get 100-110 FPS in N4
(Atlanta pit lane bench) and 3DMark2001 scores on this rig of just over
7,100.

Thanks in advance for your info....

Tom,

That's what has always happened on my system as well - I eventually kinda
got used to it, but it is an annoyance.  System is an Athlon 1.1/GF2GTS64, I
believe running 12.90 drivers.

Yes Gunnar the FF is included in the patch and MOST of the users seem
quite pleased by it.  It has some tricky settings to master tho but there
are plenty of users here that can point you in the right direction.

Switch to 32-bit color depth, and see if that removes the problem.  Your
system should be able to handle the increased texture depth, and that should
solve the problem...

Thanks for the suggestion, briGuy.  It didn't help....and it didn't impact
the FPS as you suggested, but it also didn't improve the graphics quality in
any discernible way.  So, what I think I'm going to try is this:  dialing in
some FSAA (which can only be done in F1-2001 at 32bit) and decreasing screen
res to reach a balance of decent FPS and improved graphics.  We'll see what
I can come up with and I'll report it back here.
