Anyone wonder just how much the AI is constrained
to follow the same laws of physics that you do?
For example, if they enter turns 1 or 3 at Daytona or
'Dega from the inside lane, they manage to keep hugging
the yellow line just nicely thank you (maintaining their
entry speed), even if they are doing 195 MPH in a draft ?
If you attempt this neat trick OTOH you will either slide
up into the outer groove (and wreck any poor slob who
might be out there) or will have to hit the brakes and
risk being rear-ended.  This was happening all the way
back in NASCAR 1...why hasn't it been changed?
And...can you be successful running in that outside
groove?  If you try to hang out there the AI cars will
invariably start passing you like you are standing still.
Even if you have a draft buddy or two out there you
will lose position.
All in all very annoying and it constrains when and
where you can pass people...

You need to play with your setup then.  I know that the Fast setup that
comes with the game is very hard to control and very hard to keep in that
bottom groove.  However once you play with the setup and get it more stable,
it is very easy to stay in that groove with the AI.

As for the outside line, the outside line is MUCH better than in past
versions.   You can easily pass on the outside now if you have help.

One word--setups.

And if you've been in this since N1, then surely this cant be news to you.

Or you can always try arcade mode.

What did you do to make the setup more stable.... I always end up making it
worse
