F1RS Crash.

by Hobble » Sun, 27 Sep 1998 04:00:00

I just got F1RS and i installed it, at first it didn't work, the message
Error
in: Sorry but specular does not work correctly = no game!
Line: 1634.
would pop up on my desktop.
Then i installed the 1.09 patch, and the game started working, but after a
couple of minutes it would crash and kick me out of the game and back to my
desktop.
I don't have a 3Dfx card, but i have DirectX 6 in my machine.
I have a Dell XPS 300
Matrox Millenium 2 8Mb
48 Mb ram
4.3 Gb Hard Drive.
I called Ubisoft but nobody answers.
Can anybody out there help me please.
Thanks in advance

Same thing thing happened to me using D3D version and resetting sound files
helped although I'm afraid you will have continuous problems until you
upgrade to voodoo 2 based card although I understand  Monaco Racing Sim 2 is
much more D3D friendly.
Try this: cpa/dll/sound cpa.......Change Default WAVX2 to WAVPW
You can always change back if no help. Good Luck!

It is the Millenium 2, F1RS doesn't support it, the game just doesn't
understand the card as being compatible; there isn't a software patch to
that case, only hardware or return it.
I don't believe MGP will support the Millenium 2 either, but I haven't seen
a full compatibility list yet.

I was sure I responded to this yesterday...
In any case, that particular message as advised by Hobbles, is probably the
one in the FAQ about `no stipple' and is from the Millenium 2 which isn't
supported by F1RS and was never meant to be. Sorry if that is a trifle
blunt, but I just want to be honest about it.

As a general note to people about MGP, I am monitoring the newsgroup and
looking at the feedback; this doesn't mean now is the time to spam the hell
out of it just to throw the same idea out as many times as possible, not
that this is the type of newsgroup where that has happened though.
Some nice comments and good threads.

I f you want to be honest.. go on and state how well your game supports A3D
technology. And how after numerous cutomers have called to complain of this
fact you have to date released no new patches to correct the sound problems.

The best you could offer was to ask the good people in here to do your job
since you have been unable to come up with a solution.

The sound3d patch which is on the website has resolved 99% of all the
problems that we have encountered with A3D cards. While it doesn't support
A3D as A3D, it is there. And since it was able to resolve problems that
arose with A3D cards it was not deemed necessary to create another patch.
I have read of some problems with A3D users that have been unresolved and I
have read of others who have the A3D and have experienced no problems.
I have on occasion suggested that people contact this newsgroup as a good
source of real gamers of varying opinions and computer setups which we don't
have access to. I didn't look at this as a failing per se as the best way to
get the information to the customer instead of saying "we'll get back to
you" or promising a patch or anything else. If you don't believe that you
are a good source of information, not representing people who play the game
more on a larger number of different systems and thus provide probably the
best source of information...well, that's up to you, but I felt that given
the choice between not having the hardware at hand and using the newsgroup
where it should be available, I will continue to choose the latter.

On another note, the problem at hand has nothing to do with A3D.

Good to see you around (and for having the guts to stick your head into
the swarm <G>).  This is a valid point and of course we assume that you
are monitoring this and other newsgroups so you can field answers sent
your way...

We are trying, there are admittedly some problems which we haven't seen
before etc, but it has been said before and it is true that companies should
take a more active presence on newsgroups etc.
Admittedly my neck is feeling a little warm.
But we'll still try our best.
