F1RS crashes quickly, any help please

by Ed Kloskowsk » Fri, 17 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Well i finally got a copy of F1RS from UBISOFT ( Ihave been witing a long
time to get it)

And I get several error all within 5 minutes.

first is on start I get a message about the CD not being ready or something
with choices to ABORT, RETRY, and IGNORE abort and ignore let me into the
game.

the interface seems REALLY slow.. take forever for a click to bring
something up.

and usually within a few minutes of being in the game it crashes back the
desktop with an error in the F1RS.exe or something.

it happens either when making car changes or in the menus OR usually when
the race is about to start.

In any case i cant play the game at all, and am rather bummed. So if you
have a suggestion please fire away!

config:
p200MMX
64 meg ram
PURE 3D
DIAMOND MONSTER sound
VIPER 330
GP1 steering wheel - (which the game will not recognize BTW)
24x toshiba CD romm
all SCSI drives (3 total for 8 gig conner and seagate)

thanks folks!

To get your joystick recognized, try clicking on the LEFT column first and
click a keyboard key.
Once you've been able to change the driving axis to a different key, then
try to use your driving
wheel input, but, again, start with the LEFT column, and then move to the
RIGHT.

As for slow menu loads, I experienced this too. Try doing a complete
install. It's just slow, though.
No bug on your system, just slow.

Never had a single system crash so I can't help you there, sorry.

Well, actually I consider the menu system in F1RS a BUG... ;^)

I hope, for F1RS2 they return to a functional, keyboard-enabled menu
system!

I was having all kinds of problems until I changed the resolution to 800 x
600. I installed the 1.08 patch and now the game loads much quicker too. I
would do a re-install and start from scratch.

Well, I bought F1RS a couple weeks ago, and had much the same problem.
Usually, a crash if I simply TOUCHED my GP1 wheel or the joystick, if I
tried that.  I couldn't figure out what the problem was, and since I was
running the less-than-perfect D3D version (hadn't bought my 3dfx card
yet, and hadn't planned on it until the GPL demo came out) plus the
lousy sound, I took it back.

BUUUUT, I *did* end up buying a 3dfx card this week, and I *think* I
might have found the source of my crashes (mine were always blue screen
crashes in MSANALOG.VXD) - while games suggest switching "poll with
interrupts enabled" in the Game Controllers CP to OFF for performance
reasons, I haven't had any crashes since I turned it back ON.

So, I bought myself a birthday present of F1RS today, and I'll let you
know if I have better luck this time.
