Does anyone have an idea what the computer requirements will be for the
upcoming Nascar 4?

The Papyrus news release claims a PII 266 minimum with a PII 400 the
target cpu.  I "REALLY" have a hard time accepting that....I'd guess
with how cpu intensive GPL is....that N4 with it's much larger fields
must put a greater strain on a cpu.  I'd be pleased as punch if you
could run a PII 400 well, but I'm betting that will only get you 16 bit
color and reduced # of cars drawn.
This is totally speculation on my part, I don't have any info to back
it up other than what I said above.  I wouldn't be suprised if a PIII
600-800mhz would be necessary for turning on most of the options.
Remember too, the sim is capable of 32 bit color and T&L so you should
also be thinking about your video card capabilites....
Fortunately we have almost 6 months til the scheduled release so there
is plenty of time to digest what recomendations are accurate and plan on
buying new equipment.  I wouldn't make purchases now and expect them to
be on target for a sim that won't be released til Xmas.

How's this: I have a PII 333 with 128MB RAM and a Voodoo 3 3000 AGP, and
Nascar 3 gives 25-31 fps at 1024x768 on long tracks and 800x600 on short
tracks, with about half the screen goodies turned off, and 12 ahead, 3
behind. Antialiasing turned off.

I would consider my PC the "minimum" acceptable for N3. I bet N4 won't run
well until you get into the PIII 500 range at least.

Nascar 4 computer requirements?

I have the same amount of memory and graphics card, but I have a PII
400.
I have antialiasing on, all graphics on, maxxed cars ahead and 3
behind. I run at 800x600 and get 25-31 fps

Im betting that with Nascar 4, their PII400 recommendation will not
cut it if you want the majority of graphics on and an acceptable frame
rate.
If my system now cant keep a steady 31fps in N3, then there's no way
nascar 4 will run smooth without having to turn most graphics options
off, which to me isnt even an option. :)
Im guessing a PIII 600+ with 128mb ram and one of the latest graphics
cards with at least 32mb of memory to run N4 nicely.

If it were me (and it will be in December), I'd get the fastest CPU and
D3D/OpenGL capable video card that I could possible afford.  Nothing less
that a P3/800 (or AMD equivalant)...

I agree.  I'm running a P3-600 now, and I really doubt it will be
enough to run N4 with all the bells and whistles enabled.
As someone else pointed out with GPL, we will have more cars with N4,
and a much higher poly count on the cars.   It would be awesome if it
would run on a P2-400, but I wouldn't count on that.
I did read somewhere that they had refined the engine quite a bit, so
who knows.
