GP3 Wishlist?

Ok, gp3 is rumoured to be ready for release around early 1998? (March
maybe?)

That should mean it is still being developed, which should also mean there
is still time to make changes to it?

So if we put forward our lists of what we (Auto Sim & F1GP1 & F1GP2
players) want in gp3, someone, somewhere, just might be listening, and we
might just get some of the things we are asking for?

So I'll start the ball rolling......

I would like to see the following improvements (not necessarily in this
order?)

1) Variable weather options (during all types of driving, practise,
qualifying, racing).

2) Ability to select different tyres (and tyre pressures).

3) Realistic car performance (based on chassis, engine, tyres, etc).

4) Realistic driver performance (based on experience & personality of
driver)

5) Network option (without performance drop).

6) Improved linked game performance (null modem or serial cable or modem
link).

7) Improved graphic options & 3D support (3Dfx, etc), and patches
available as technology moves on.

8) Improved sound options (Ability to hear other cars, commentary & pit
radio sounds, with the option to turn off).

9) Improved track details (including track falls and rises, and new track
layouts?)

10) A track/car/driver editor.

11) Improved car physics (ability to flip the cars?)

12) Improved camera angles for viewing during racing (Camera on top of
car, ala real tv coverage?)

13) If *extra* tracks can be created via a track editor, then we should be
able to *add* these tracks rather than *replace* existing tracks, and also
be able to choose which tracks we want to race. In this way we could
*customise* a whole season racing at the tracks of our choice?

I'm sure you may have a few other things you want included? post your list
here, and anywhere else you may think appropriate? (Microprose website?)
And who knows? it might be included in the actual game (but its just as
likely that it might not!!!!!)

d:-))

"Peter Gagg" heeft geschreven in bericht ...

Will it take advantage of Win98 features then??? I read Win98 was set back 3
months to the second quarter of 98.

Yep. I've seen it in Formula-1 from Psygnosis looking like lightning from
the tires, but if it's possible, the giantic amount of spray would make
qualifying very interesting and racing a true challenge. Does this include a
rolling start a-la Spa?

Woohaa.... And camfer?

In other words, Minardi Tyrrel and such teams are backmarkers only?

I've seen J.C. Bouilon replaces Villeneuve in F-1 Racing from Ubisoft
because the bald midget doesn't want to license his name. What DO you know
about Bouilon??? Furthermore, how realisitc can it be? Weird races like
Hungary this year would require an incredible highly developed AI.

I've got no idea how a LAN-game performs, but Internet play is more hampered
by bad ISPs than by the game-coding itself.

Modem direct worked fine in GP-2 for me.

Hear hear. And speaking of tech moving on, how about improvements during the
season? Improving engines, new additions to the cars, lighter chassis and
such. It wouldn't be that difficult, just set new parameters for a specific
race. For instance Ferrari drives a lighter car in Monza, or uses a Monza
spec. engine. New parameter for that race is I think all that is neccesary.

Certainly. But sounds like pittalk do tend to get repetitive. Murray Walker
really gets on your nerves after a few laps in Psygnosis F-1.

Fair. Must be a possibility.

Heh... add-on pack me thinks...

Flip the car? As in turn it upside down? How about putting the weight were
the weight is? Whe you get airborn in GP-2 the car nose-dives back to the
ground, where in reality, the weight in where the engine is.

Very neat.

How inteligent would such a track editor be? If you request falls and rises,
you also want the ability to add such aspects in your own tracks. Hmm,
making an oval and pitting an F-1 car on an Indy-track seems interesting.

14) Realistic penalties. Speeding under yellow results in stop and go, not a
car that won't go faster. Into the pit, 10 second wait, out of the pit.

15) Better officials behavior with flags. Wave blue flags when a backmarker
is going to be lapped.

16) Backmarkers should be more aware they're going to be lapped and don't
think they're competing at that moment.

17) JUMP-STARTS! This is a very essential part of F-1 racing. A GOOD START
gains a lot more places in a short time than you can ever do during the race
itself.

18) No repairs of blown engines, and other catastrophic damages. Out is out.
Repairs must take the required time. New nose not in 3 seconds.

19) Debris must be solid. I like this in Ubisofts F-1 Racing.

20) Continue fastlap in qualifying AFTER the flag drops.

21) On screen Pole-time, to compete the pole-time.

I think these are very nice additions making for a very realistic F-1
simulator.

How about wishing there would be one?

Microprose have on many occasions denied there would be such a product.
Recently, yes there was a meeting at Microprose deciding on the future of such
a  product, and the decision was no. The rumors of a few months back were
valid then, becuase the concept was under discussion, but it has been
abandoned.

On the other hand the recent purchase of MPS by GT could lead to a project.
Who knows. Is there any word on what Geoff C is actually doing these days?

In Montreal 1996 GP, a co-worker bumped into the MPS demoing GP2 prior to
it's release. One person representing MPS claimed to be the lead programmer-
it seemed it had been taken out of Geoff's hands in the final months, and was
being tuned in house. Who knows what was going - no doubt this lead to the
infamous 6 month delay.

So, the question about a GP3 or anything related in that manner, is where is
Geoff?

And you if you believe that, you'll believe anything.

Geoff Crammond is and always has been the author of F1GP (World Circuit in
the US) and GP2.  MicroProse is the sole publisher of these titles.  There
has been no meeting as this message suggests.  There has not been any
discussion on a GP3 at this time.  Our position has always been clear on
this.  If another racing sim is made by Geoff Crammond we will publish it
and let everyone know by placing a press release on our WWW site.  At this
time there is nothing there.  So far almost all the "rumours" have centered
around a note in a UK magazine which indiacted that we we publishing this
title early in 1998, which is untrue.  A note which was never expanded upon
in later issues or mentioned in any other publication.  MicroProse have no
licence from FUJI and FOCA for any racing year other than 1994 and at this
time we are not actively seeking a licence for use.

Mark Rich/MicroProse-Europe

How about a simulation of the drivers themselves?
For example: When crashing hard in qualifying, you should be able to
break some bones and be taken to a hospital. Next few races you won't be
able to drive ;o)
Maybe that will make things a LOT more realistic, instead of crashing
100 times to set an absurd laptime!

I think that would be considered bad taste, however, having spare cars
etc would be good, and if you wreck your race car, you use the T-Car and
when you wreck that you don't race!

Gee, Don't ya just love the way Mark makes it sound so happy/positive!

Micropose can't even let us hope or dream about a GP3, they just slam
the door in our face.

Thanks a lot, and Merry Christmas to you too MicroProse
