The plates are put on the engines on the superspeedways
(like Taladega) to control the speed of the cars.  By editing the
Taladega.txt file in cd\nascar\tracks\taladega you can remove them.  
There is a line that says "speedway" followed by a couple of numbers.  
One of these numbers is either a zero or a one (i forget which).  Either
way change it to the other(ie. change the 0to1 or 1to0).  You shoud
easily gain another 15 mph or so.  If you still want the races to be
competative, change the strengths of the other drivers to 110-115% in the
opponents menu.  If you need any help making these changes please e-mail

Also "RELS" in the "TRACK.TXT" file can go beyond 100%
