: I thought I heard them mention this during the race today too. Didn't they
: say it was a special Sport Utility vehicle with the LMP engine?
:
Yeah, I was surprised to hear that! BMW M5 with the V-12 LMP engine. Man,
I'd trade my Ford Explorer for one of those... and then still be short about
$75K I imagine <sigh>.
Dale.

: Not an M5, but an X5
That's right. My mistake.

Fortunately, they list both time and average speed, so the track length is
easy to calculate:
Formel 1 7:06.4 192.8 km/h 22836m
Gruppe C 6:25.91 194.33km/h 20832m
Kind regards,
Anton
I have located my cassette tape of the historic event in question
and found that the announcement of the dead on 7 min lap of Carlos Pace,
Brabham, also was recorded without a gaggle of cars going through
Wehrseifen blocking it out. Pace's lap may have beaten Lauda's but for
his engine having a stuck valve while exiting that last chicane before
the
line (?)- called the braking chicane in Autocourse. His reaction to
this,
standing up in the***pit while in the pits yelling and shaking his
***at the mechanics (he thought at the time that they had
miscalculated the amount of fuel on board) is another example of how art
(GPL) reflects life.
It isn't the best recording of the 1975 cars - far from it - but near
the end of the tape I may have the best ever recording of activity at
the refreshment stand near that corner (bottles/cans being opened,
change
hitting the counter and cash register doors slamming shut!

Not too much information there, but they are stating it is a world
record(?)
Stuck comments that the X5 reached a top speed of 311km/h on the
straight! Totally insane!
