1981 Toyota Starlet 1.2s
Great handling though for what it was - it had the sharpest (15:1 ratio i
think) lightest steering of any car I've ever driven, and rear wheel drive
(not that you could really tell unless it was wet or on snow/ice!)

My first car was a Toyota Corolla DX14 from.. '82 I believe. I still
miss her, she also handled beautifully. How she would have loved a
ride on the Ring.. :(

Yes but if you'd crashed, the $$$ for repairs would have come from your OWN
pocket.  That changed the mindset a bit...<g>

Toyota Starlets were/are very popular with the short oval saloon formulae
here in Britain.  The actual toyota engine rarely stays in, but the chassis
is ideal.

One of the reasons I love Gran Turismo 2 on the PSX is the chance to rag
around in these plastic shopping carts :o)

Hmm this is true to a point I think the ring kind of sucks you in though.
Example, last time I went at easter I thought I'd take my first lap easy. By
the time I reached Hatzenbach II I was braking as late as I could and
screeching the tires round the corners. When I reached Schwedenkreuz I had
the back end come out on me and nearly lost control Yikes! not a place you
want the to happen, so I took it a bit easy down the Fuchsr?he. However by
the time I was at Adenauer Forst the tyres were squealing again. It turned
out to be the quickest lap I did all weekend - So much for taking it easy!
I managed to restrain myself a bit after that - I didn't want another close
call, but it's so easy to find yourself going faster/taking more risks than
you intended to.

Very true... there are also the "ooops, 1997 road cars don't really grip
*that* well, however slow they seem to be going compared to 1967 GP
cars" -moments. <g>
