It'll be hard to set benchmarks to make everyone happy. In some cases the Papy
times are reasonable for a beginner, but some seem impossible. Perhaps it
would be good to have two sets of benchmarks, one geared towards beginners,
and one for the faster people. Another way of setting the times is to take the
time of the person at a certain percentage of the rank for each track For
example using 60%:
KY - 909 records x 0.6 = position 545 -> 1:22.78
MC - 896 records x 0.6 = position 537 -> 1:32.17
ZV - 894 records x 0.6 = position 536 -> 1:28.83
SP - 900 records x 0.6 = position 540 -> 3:24.27
RO - 900 records x 0.6 = position 540 -> 2:02.52
SS - 900 records x 0.6 = position 540 -> 1:31.00
NR - 854 records x 0.6 = position 512 ->8:57.96
MS - 878 records x 0.6 = position 527 -> 1:25.58
MZ - 929 records x 0.6 = position 557 -> 1:29.54
WG - 915 records x 0.6 = position 549 -> 1:06.74
MX - 858 records x 0.6 = position 515 -> 1:53.93
Its interesting that these times come close to what Colin suggested and it may
be easier to round off to even seconds (e.g. the Ring to 9:00, WG to 1:07,
etc.) . A similar method could be used to pick benchmarks for the pros, say
using 30% to set the times.

GPL Handicap +95.55
PS I began to use the %Rank to evaluate my abilities relative to the GPL
community after became depressing to see my rank position fall every day. A
week ago I was at 534 out of 691 = 77.3 %. That same handicap today would be
617/816 = 75.61%. If your percentage was below 50% you could say with some
credibility that you were a faster than average GPL driver. :-) I've noticed
that without changing my handicap, my ranking as a percentage tends to get
better as more slower people join below me to compensate for the ones passing
me. Just another way of looking at it I guess.
