Thanks for that, not sure if the rebates are valid over here in England
though. I probably will end up with them both but am a bit strapped for cash
at the moment.

I've owned SCGT for two days and now wonder why I need to keep Viper Racing.
I like them both a lot, but the variety of cars and tracks like Laguna,
Mid-Ohio,
Road Atlanta and Sebring will keep me interested far longer than the one car
model,
fantasyland of VR.

I *haven't* gotten SCGT yet (although AM tempted to run out to Media Play
since they're still open hehe) - but I really, really get the feeling it'll
have more longevity for me than Viper.  I raced Viper for hours the first
weekend I got it, and moved up a class and got some upgrades, but the lack
of speed sensation and the lack of "real" tracks has kept it from getting
replayed much in the weeks since.  Actually the tracks bother me the most,
I'd MUCH rather them have had 8 tracks that were pretty realistic (some are
good, some aren't, but the run-it-backwards bit is kinda goofy) and have ALL
the classes racing at the same time, ala SCGT.  Plus if I want to drive a
no-grip heavy car I tend to like NASCAR 99 better. :-)

Don't take this wrong - I can see where Viper is a GREAT game, but it just
doesn't grab ME, although I like a lot about the concept and execution.
From what I've read on SCGT and playing the demo, I think it'll be more what
I was looking for out of Viper - a fun "lighter" sim.

.  Actually the tracks bother me the most,
Well many tracksrun a bassackwards races.   Hallet does and infact they
run the Kart races backards due to its easier on karts.  I have not tried
the backwards tracks yet, but I do know some SCCA regions used to get more
sanctions for races at tracks by running both normally and backwards since
they could call it a different track.

I think he meant the fantasy tracks in Viper are weird backwards.
I have heard of races at Thunderhill and I think Buttonwillow were run backwards, but these have lots of run off and are fairly
flat. I once got to drive Sears Point backwards and it was more fun than the regular way, but the barriers are in the wrong places
for going off. Coming down the hill from turn 3a to 3 is a blind drop like the corkscrew and down turn one gets you in top gear
before you get to the bottom like Road Atlanta  after the bridge.
The fantasy tracks of SCGT have layouts like real race tracks. SCGT Laguna Seca corkscrew seems too fast and you can drive over the
right berm without upsetting the car, and turn 9 to 10 does not feel like its going down hill.

Unfortunately no, since Mid Ohio is a USRRC track I don't think anyone got
the approval to run it since most of the cars are running the PSCR or the
American Lemans series.

I beleive the rebate has ended. :-(
GET BOTH!!!
Personally I loved Viper.....til I played SCGT.
Viper tracks look like Wiley Coyote and the Roadrunner are comin
around the corner any second.  ALL the Vipers look exactly the
same....DUH guess cuz they are.
Viper AI acts like you aren't even on the track if you get in their
way. but there are only 8 to watch out for.
Vipers feel great to drive though and the game can be maxed out on
most systems without a problem. And the options and the garage are
very friendly. And the damage is cool and the replay is nice.
SCGT will bog down most systems when it is maxed out.  THe Garage
options are irrataiting to say the least.  The sound isn't much better
than vipers.the replay is not very intuitive
BUT dammit its just more fun.  graphics are outstanding.  Cars have
variaty and detail.  AI is much better than vipers.  they actually try
to avoid accidents. 16 cars is more exciting than 8.  rain is cool.
night is cool although it would be cooler if the head lights really
worked.  And both games have a nifty little horn you can beep if you
like. oh yeah and you can turn your viper into an airplane and shoot
beachballs with your horn. (no shit...you can)

ps   GPL is the best if you can handle the learning curve.
