Get real! You can't complain about corporate SPONSORSHIP of racing. Well,
you can, but getting rid of it would be "cutting off your nose to spite your
face."
You think those teams would be able to afford to spend millions of dollars a
season (per team) to put on such a good show without corporate money? Money
for track improvements has to come from somewhere too.
I say we should be thanking Lowes and others who sponsor our favorite sports
by supporting them. I think I will go buy a shovel from Lowes and a rake
from Home Depot right now!! :-)
Not to mention buying Blue Bonnet butter and shopping at mall.com, since
they are sponsering the races I will attend next weekend!

My 2c, If a company wants to do this try to incorporate the original
name, otherwise you just***people off and they still call it what
they want (candlestick, C***te etc.)

Would you like your kid to go to "Coca-Cola's Millettville High School"?
Would you like to see your city named "Intel's Sparkesburg, ***ia"? Or
how about Walmartsville? Look at the long trajectory, and maybe you'll
acknowledge I have a point at least worth considering;--instead of
immediately assuming a defensive knee-jerk reaction.

Seem to thrive, huh? Let's see. Before the sponsorship came along you could
buy a ticket to any race on the day of the race at the ticket booth. Let's
also talk about the fact that you wouldn't get to see half the races each year
because nobody cared to televise them. Hell, even the Busch races are
televised now.
So if you want to sit there in your log cabin and whine and complain about the
sponsors having wrecked the racing game go right ahead. Just reminds me of
the losers that sit around all day and cry about how things were so much
better back in the fifties and sixties and think that change is the big evil
monster of the present day.

I guess I just don't see it your way. It's not "simply awful" or an
"example of the destruction of civic space" to me.
To me, it's somebody else providing some money so that the sport I like to
watch is supported by something other than ticket prices. Going to the
races isn't cheap. Building (or improving) a race track is a huge
investment, and a track is more than extremely lucky to get a half-dozen
major events a year. A major corporation pouring a few million bucks in the
pot means that much less that has to be paid for with ticket-price-hikes.

P.S.- If they want to support my children's school, that is okay too :-) I
would happily send my children to AT&T High if it improved the education
they would get. I would still shop around for my long-distance carrier, but
AT&T would be my first choice if their rates were competitive.
In case you hadn't noticed, capitalism and commercialism are what motivate
those who sell the things we like to buy. Even racecar sims.
Charlie
Now do you get the idea?
You are 100% right. That doesn't mean its a good thing, however. ;-)
