I wouldn't care if it were named Budweiser High if they got a good education
and didn't have to worry about some low-life loser bringing a shotgun to
school because he gets picked on in P.E.

Oh really. I don't seem to remember ever seeing a race from Martinsville or
Richmond being televised on broadcast TV during those days of the late 60s or
early 70s. And there were not many tracks being built in this time frame. As
a matter of fact, we began losing tracks (Riverside comes to mind) because the
races weren't of much interest to anyone who lived to far away to drive to the
races. Now that they're all on television (cable or otherwise) I never miss a
Cup race and see most of the BGN races, due solely to the money poured into
the sport because of the sponsors. Hell, we even get to watch qualifying and
Happy Hour. How many Happy Hours did you get to watch during the 70s?
How many people were in the stands at the Bristol spring race of 1980?
30,000? Maybe? Now we see stands filled with 140,000 race fans. Some may
think this is bad and being stuck in traffic once a year when the Cuppers come
to Vegas might tend to have me agreeing with them. But, I think it's a small
price to pay to see great racing almost any week of the year (BRING ON THE
WINTER HEAT SERIES!!).
Nobody says you owe any sponsor anything. I don't shop at Lowes because they
sponsor NASCAR so much ( I've gone to Home Depot, long before TS came along).
I don't drink Pepsi because Gordon showers the Winner's Circle with it after
every win ( I prefer Coke). I don't use Pennzoil, Mobil 1 or Havoline in my
truck (Quaker State because I go to Q Lube for oil changes). No, you don't
owe the sponsors anything.
A little silent thank you for bringing us this sport we love so much would be
nice though.

The box said "Windows 95 or better", so I installed LINUX!
What civic space? This isn't your typical basketball arena or football
stadium that the owners of such whine and pout about until the municipalities
pay for them. These structures are paid for by the men who decide to build
them such as Bruton Smith or the France family. Seems to me that if they want
to sell the naming rights to anyone then that is their right. You didn't pay
for the construction of the track. Bill Bennett built the Las Vegas Motor
Speedway complex here in my hometown without any money from the city or county
except for that that which would normally be expended in granting zoning
approval.
