In this weeks autosport there is an article about Anthony Davidson driving
F1C around the nordschleife!! He does it in 5.50.4 in the 2002 BAR. Have
been trying to beat it today butonly got 5.59.3 (just with low traction
control). Am gonna beat him if it kills me!!

Damn straight, can't have real F1 drivers muscling in on our territory! <g>

Seriously, I thought the track was too bumpy to use the F1s, but I haven't
tried them on the Kvakos update. I'll give it a go this weekend... just
under 6 minutes... that's gotta be one serious rush! ;-)

Using Dave Noonan's converted Nurburgring with the TPTCC cars from
theuspits.com I've gotten just short of 1 minute faster with the Viper
than with the GPL lotus, but that is Nr2k3 and it's mods.
With F1c, the original release, called 'thering' is indeed bumpy and
difficult.  You can dload from the etcc track pages and other locations
the 'nordschleife' track(and then dump Kvakos updates on it) and that is
culled from Ian's smoothing and relofting done before Simbin left the mod
community.   I've run ETCC cars and gotten times similar to my GPL lotus
times...so slower than the Viper in TPTCC but that's just the 2.0 litre
touring cars.  I would suspect either the F1 or the Group C prototypes
would be the fastest.  hmmmm now that I think about that...the CART mod
(actually just a port of the F1 2k1 via f1 2k2) has more grip...I wonder
how those times would compare?

Wow.. right on!
It's always really cool to hear about a pro driver using games, and even
using MODS for those games!

Sorry, wasn't able to find any links to the article (and have no scanner and
too busy trying to beat the time to copy it). Have managed to get down to
5.56.3 on the ETCC version. Its not too bumpy, infact the v1.1 update makes
it bumpier. I never thought of running the F1 car around it, but it makes
for the best drive ever. The feeling of speed is amazing. Unlearning all the
breaking points in GPL was hard, and learning to keep the foot down flat,
but when you do, WOW!! Give it a go. Someone needs to beat him (if I do I'll
be writing to BAR demanding my race seat ;) )

Dozens of people have 5:40's at the simbin ring in F1C.  I'm surprised
Davidson considers 5:50 fast when I've done mid 55's and I hate the
sim.

The Kvako version got high kerbs, it' slower than the Simbin con-version off
course, you can't cut nothing.
Days ago, me and my friend of Gtitalia have run a 3 hours of free 'Ring1.1
online session with che old dear GTR2002,
menaging a 7.13 in the Diablo, and Sandman with the 911 Gt2 a 7.17. (cluth
help only).
We love that track.

cheers

I haven't seen any replays of people doing 5:40's at the simbin ring in F1C,
so my comments may not necessarily be valid, they are just stereotypes.
After seeing quite a few hotlaps replays for other things, it's obvious that
people do things that normal drivers wouldn't do in real life. Also,
unrealistic setups seem to be used, etc...

I'm guessing Davidson, being an actual driver trying to learn something
instead of someone attempting to prove his *** size by posting the fastest
hotlap on a website, might be going about it in a while different manner..

LOL, great comment Mike :)

I posted about this article on the RSC forums (F1C 99-02) and it seems
to have caused a bit of a stir with fast sim drivers ringing up BAR
for job applications as test driver :-) <gross exaggeration, but you
get my drift>

Kvako, simbin, etcc, xzibit?

Could someone give a poor soul a rundown of what's what? How many
versions are there really and how do I get them?

There are 3 or 4 version around, 2 have tha same layout of the '67 of Grand
Prix Legend but old version lacks of pitcrews, pitlights and starting
lights.
The fists version called 'TheRing" came from the abandoned project of the
'77mod for gtr2002 of Simbin, converted from Grand Prix Legend.
Maybe a leak i don't know :D. someone later adds more details to this
version.
But the best version imho is here.

www.kvako.com

The 1.1 version of the Kvako's Nordschelife, it's an hybrid between thw '67
version and the actual layout.
Has kerbs, pitcrews, pitlights and starting lights, and you can cut the
track, just behind the nordkehre.

http://www.gtitalia.com/forum/uploads/post-7-1085867652.jpg

So we don't have to do a complete lap before the timer start counting.

We have noticed the the timer don't start in F1Ch or mods if you cut.

With Gtr2002 works fine, but i prefer do a slow complete lap for warmin'up
brakes and tires and off course me. :DD

Etcc is the RSR F1Challenge Mod that simulates the European Touring Car
Championship.

I've tested the 1.1 'ring with VirtuaLm PrototypeC Mod, DTM, Minimod and
ETCC and works fine, just some tweaks in the .gbd and .scn files.

OK - here's one version of events ;) -

Simbin are the one's who made the brilliant series of FIA-GT mods for
F1-2kX, culminating in GTR-2002 for F1-2002, then went commercial and
will be coming out with GTR (based on current FIA-GT) sometime this
year.
While they were doing the free GT mod, they also started work on an
F1-77 mod.  Part of this work included converting the GPL Nordschleife
track, smoothing the track geometry since the ISI engine cars actually
drive on the track polygons.
Xzibit-A posted a beta version on his website - which ticked alot of
people off.  He also did a conversion of GTR-2002 to the F1C engine.
He claims permission from everyone but Ian Bell, but I have no idea of
the exact details.
Kvako's Nordschleife update is a brilliant update to the track.
ETCC is Racesims Revolutions' European Touring Car Championship mod
for F1c.
I don't have links to all these things handy, but you can probably
find all you need between:
forum.rscnet.org
bhmotorspots.com
m4driving.com
f1simlinks (don't have the URL handy, but consolodates alot of the
download links).

Thanks both for replying, much appreciated.

I knew about the ETCC mod, I had already installed it, but it seemed
like some people talked about an ETCC-version of Nordschleife... but
maybe not?

I tracked down the kvako version, but I can't get it to work in F1C,
though.

Go to this site and dload a version of Nordschleife already setup for
ETCC.
http://hsw.hu/etcc03tracks/etcc.htm

then unzipp the Kvakos updates into the same folder...should be
etc03seasondata\circuits\nordschleife
