While I was out and about today, I spotted a model
shop in lavender hill
London SW11 (UK), and what did I see in the window
but a
1/12 scale Tamiya Lotus 49B.

I went in to ask about it and see what else they
had, and this shop is a gold mine
for anyone in to GPL period and other model cars,
It seems the boss travels the world buying up old
stock of obsolete kits.

Well the Lotus kit is a bit out of my price range
at 75 but I thought
some of you might be interested, theve got 4 of
the Lotus kits left
plus a load of other interesting stuff like
Ferrari 312T, Tyrell etc.

Sorry but I forgot to note the door number or
phone number
but there
Comet Miniatures
Lavender Hill
London
SW11

Its quite a big shop so you cant miss it.

I saw quite a few Tamaya kits last weekend at a motorsports memorabilia show
here in Southern California. All of the kits were of the mid-70s cars
though, mostly Tyrrells. Most were in the 25 to 50 dollar range with the
exception of a rather trashed looking P34 kit , the Tyrrell 6-wheeler, that
the owner was asking $100.00 for. Maybe that Tamaya Wolf WR-1 I have stashed
away in my closet is worth something after all<g>.

Nope.
Tamiya never made either the Eagle-Weslake or the repco-Brabham.  Shame,
really.

Hmmm,

sound like a bit of a ripoff, as the lotus 49B has been reissued, and
cab be found for a lot less....

the kit is not one of the best Tamiya offerings btw, as they took the 49
and added the parts to make it look like a 49B.
I'm currently working on converting one to Rindts spanish gp car, and
man does it need a shitload of work!!!!

You don't know how right you are my friend...us modelers have been
hoping Tamiya will reissue that one aswell.....if you are not building
it put it on ebay, you might get a 64Mb Geforce out of it....

<snipped>

On a related topic, I recieved a catalogue in the mail today from a company
called Lilliput. The specialize in re-issues of antique toys including lots
of the old Schuco, Togi and Marklin toy racecars, planes and trains. Lately
they began to carry the Exoto line of 1:18 scale models as well as the
beautiful works of art from the Revival company. This catalogue is for their
current sale, they have the Exoto Siffert and Andretti 49Bs for sale at
$70.00. I recently paid $120.00 for a Jim Clark Exoto Lotus 49, so this is a
pretty good deal for those interested in the high-winged Lotus. Another
interesting item is a 1:18 Schlesser/Simon, Nurburgring winning, 65 Cobra
Daytona Coupe, also from Exoto at just over half the normal asking price.

There are too many other cool things in this catalogue to go into here, but
here's their phone number if anyone might be interested in getting a copy:
1-800-TIN-TOYS or 775-463-5181.

I own it and believe me, if one wished to turn it into a F1 version of the
Eagle-Weslake, it would be a MAJOR job. Considerable differences between the
two, and MPC have done a pretty good job on the accuracy of the Indy car.
This makes it even more difficult to convert to the F1 car! :-)
