Voodoo2 and GPL, calibration issues?

Voodoo2 and GPL, calibration issues?

by Steve Garrot » Wed, 14 Mar 2001 00:20:21

I have just installed GPL on a new-to-me computer with a Voodoo2, I am
using the Unofficial 3Dfx GPL patch-O-matic and if I try to calibrate
my Act Labs Force RS it will lockup almost every time. If I change to
software mode it will calibrate just fine. Anyone else seen this? I
will have to check the drivers I am using, but they are very new.

SLG

PS, it did this without the Unofficial 3Dfx GPL patch-O-matic also.

What version of GPL and DirectX do you have.  Also, try these settings
in your Autoexec.Bat if you want optimal Voodoo2 performance with GPL.
I spent a solid month coming up with these:

SET FX_GLIDE_NO_SPLASH=1
SET SSTV2_VIDEO_FILTER_DISABLE=1
SET SSTV2_FASTMEM=1
SET SSTV2_FASTPCIRD=1
SET SSTV2_VIDEO_24BPP=0
SET FX_GLIDE_SWAPINTERVAL=0
SET SSTV2_SWAP_EN_WAIT_ON_VSYNC=0
SET FX_GLIDE_SHAMELESS_PLUG=0
SET SSTV2_TRIPLE_BUFFER=0
SET SSTV2_MEMFIFO=1
SET SSTV2_FORCE_TRILINEAR=0

It is GPL patched to the 1.2 version and directx8 not 8a.

Verbatim... <g>

Bring up Windows Explorer.  It should already be on the root directory
of the C: drive.   Select the Autoexec.Bat file and right-mouse click
to bring up the popup menu.  Select "Edit" and this will launch
NotePad with the Autoexec.Bat loaded.  Select all of those lines from
my original message that begin with "SET" and copy  them to the
clipboard with a Ctrl-C.  Now switch focus from your newsreader and
that message to NotePad editting your AutoExec.Bat.  Go to the first
blank line at the end of the file and paste those SET statements in
using Ctrl-V.   Select "File" and "Save" from the menu and then exit.
After that, restart your computer.

Note: These *only* work with the Voodoo2.  The Voodoo3, etc look for
completely different environment variables.
