N3 and SoundBlasters EAX format...

by Jay » Sat, 22 Jan 2000 04:00:00

I know that Nascar 3 supports A3D 2.0, what about A3D 1.0 ??? Or better
yet will it support the SoundBlaster "Live" series (like X-Gamer, etc)
EAX format ????

Anyone with N3 and a SoundBlaster out there? Do you get the reflective
sounds in the game?

Thanks for the info!

N3's real-time geometry based reflections are only available via
A3D2.0, not via EAX's preset reverb environments.  However 3D
positional audio will be available on any DirectSound3D compatible
card.

A few days ago I downloaded a set of drivers that enables A3D2.0's
A2D component (from the readme) on the following soundcards:

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live!
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! Value
Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16
ESS 1688 based-sound cards

Don't ask me what A2D is, but it sounds great in Q3A on my SB Live!
I'll try it with N3 as soon as possible and post the result.

I think I found this file (a2ddrivers.exe 161Kb) on PlanetQuake,
but I'm not sure.

I HAD a SB Live, for a few days till the game port took a dump on me.  N3,
if it did produce sound from all 4 speakers separately, did it in such a
subtle way that I didn't notice it.  I do have nice Koss Speakers on all 4
corners and a Subwoofer.  The Surround worked just fine in the tests, but
giving N3 it's do, I never had the volume of the AI engines up high enough
to really tell.  Perhaps it was so transparent I never noticed it either.
I'm starting to take so much for granted in games nowadays that that's
possible.  My new card should be here Monday so I'll get a chance to check
it out again.  If you want, I'll try to do a review when it gets here.  My
FF Wheel should also be here then as well.
