N5 wish-list summary

I think we can take it as a given that there will be some degree of
overall improvement to the graphics engine.  Here is a summary of all
the comments thus far (in roughly chronological order):

- improved vehicle damage model, more realistic damage when hitting
the wall, etc.

- debris on track causes cut tires, more realistic tire wear, more
useful tire wear indicators / ability to see whilch part of a tire
that get's worn first.

- blown engines drop oil

- dynamic weather during race, dynamic time of day, fix the Daytona
sunset (what, exactly is wrong with it, anyway?)

- larger textures for cars / ability to paint wheels individually (per
car).

- more setup options, ability to change the brake bias during race.

- customizable drivers seating position (height, fore-aft) from
***pit view

- Hatswitch controls drivers view

- being able to see other driver's pitcrew's

- the ability to use worn ("scrubbed") tires during practise sessions

- improved spotter / crewchief i.e. give the spotter more "AI" (care
to expand on that?)

- better engine-damage model / ability to loose one cylinder and still
be able to complete the race (I think we get something close to this
now, at least until you enter your pits)

- a better solution to the "wall-riding problem" (any suggestions on
specifics?)

- option to force qualifying to make race.

- real time qualifying

- a trim tab for the controller...

- track editor

- console server app

- make car flipping / collision physics more realistic

- Get rid of cheesey WON and do something more like VROC (I've never
played using VROC, how is WON cheesy in comparison?)

- More road courses.  (Well, we only have the two, you know)

- Allow us to add more "blank" skins to be used when we don't have
another online driver's car file.

- include the 2002 schedule (can't we sort of do this already by
editing the season.ini?)

- Chicagoland and Kansas.

- include a screen that shows when others pitted last.

If I left any out or summarized incorrectly, I apologize.  Please feel
free to expand on any of these comments or make some new ones.

expand on that?)

Assuming this is directed to me...  What I wish for is to basicly have a
better and smarter spotter and crewchief...  Or even better - one damn good
spotter and ond damn smart crewchief :-)
Meaning:  I would like to have some or better intellegence put into them..
so that the spotter will call out those importat calls - instead of telling
you who's a lap down or leading when you're 3 wide thru turn 4. It would
also be nice if he could be better at predicting/anticeipating stuff.. ..
Examples:
"That car's going to catch up with you soon"
"You got one looking on the left" (What ever happend to this one btw? )
"Leader's catching up on you -  he'll pass low"
"Leader's coming thru - let him go low"
"Watch it in Turn 2 - there's some debris down low"
"Take it easy there hotshot - you never win these things on the firstl lap!"
etc. etc.

As for the Crew chief...  I would like him to be more of a crewchief
aswell...  to be smarter, give better advices etc..
"If you can save a few more gallons - we might make it on 1 stop"
"Left side tires looked fine - no use changing them next time"
etc. etc.

I just thought of one more thing I'de like to see fixed if Papy choose to
keep  the WON-system....
I would like some options that give me some control as to what parts of the
race list that is displayed...  So that it's possible to "filter" races
being shown based on:

- Type of track (SS, ST, SW, RC)
- Type of race (Arcade or Sim)
- Avalible/un availible races (ie. races that are unavailible for some
reason (Full field, race started, Skill or latency restirctions not meet)
are automaticly removed from the list (displayed on my screeen)
- Type of host
- Skill level required
- Latency restrictions
- Number of drivers in the race.

This thing is probably what I'm missing the most at the moment...   browsing
thru 100's of Daytona and Talladega races with 1 or 2 drivers in them is
quite annoying when all you want to race is a road course.   Giving us - the
users the ability to "filter" the unwanted races on our own race-list -
would be a huge "relief" Imho...   More people would be able to find the
races that interrest them which inturn mean that more people would  be
racing instead of browsing an ever changing list.

You can always click track on the menu bar to sort by track name. Not
quite the solution you want, but it works until something better comes
along.

It's funny that Nascar "crap" as you put it is probably the only reason Papy
is still in business right now. NASCAR is popular and keeps their payroll
going. You might want to at least respect it as it allows Papyrus to even
talk about GPL2, even though they haven't yet :) Wink Wink, Nudge Nudge

I have another one along these lines...you know those hotkeys
you use during an online race to communicate with other drivers
("I'm going low!" "Will pit on this lap" etc.)?  Well, it would be
extremely helpful and would make the game more immersive if they
also worked during offline races, both ways (human to AI as well
as vice-versa).  I am always banging into the car ahead of me
when they decide to pit without warning-in real NASCAR there
is a lot of chat going on and it would make you feel like you really
are in a real NASCAR race.  I like the idea of making racing
'deals' ("Draft with me" so we both can catch back up to the leaders).
And they really need to fix the AI, so that it

a)    passes better

b)    drafts better (the backstretch of Dega or Daytona is a real
circus with the latest patches-cars drifting all over the
place)

c)    gets those lapped cars out of the way of the lead lap cars!

To hell with these cookie-cutter Las Vegas clones! If they give us more road
courses (which they won't) then they damn well better give us more short
tracks! Road course and short track racing are the only forms of racing that
actually put the racing in the driver's hands. SHORT TRACKS, SHORT TRACKS,
SHORT TRACKS DAMMIT!!! :)

Hey how about that really useful information like "Slow car down low" that

Actually I find the sort option very useful.  I believe that the original post
asked for filters for races that are full/not full and other status'.  I often
sort by race status to show servers that are in Practice mode or sort by
"players" to find races with larger fields or even click on the "P" to seperate
the password protected servers.  It's also usefull especially on nights when
connections are poor to sort by latency so I can find a race that shows a good
ping.

Oh yes. Papy take notice, and every other sim developer too. It's one
of my main problems with any sim today. I'm a virtual driver, not a
virtual crew chief and chief mechanic at the same time. I want to get
into the***pit, test the car, give feedback to set up the car (C:PR
was a very good start) and get a sensible pitstop strategy instead of
having to browse menus blasting down the backstraight at Daytona 3 wide.

Something like this would be really helpful in multiplayer as well.  I
find the chat we have now to be very limiting and sometimes
distracting.  First you have to focus on the text and read it, then
you have to figure out which driver said it, then you have to decide
whether it was intended for you or not.  Sometimes, when several
drivers speak at the same time, there can be a long lag-time before a
critical message is displayed.

If there was a way to restrict chatting to say, the car or cars
immediately behind you on the track, of something along those lines,
it would help cut down the distraction.

What would be cool is if your crew chief could relay messages to you
from other drivers, similar to in real life: "The leader will let you
get your lap back at yellow", "Car 76 is going to take 2 tires",
etc...
