Make sure you select a normal MONO SoundBlaster and use
the IRQ and other SoundBlaster settings which the card is
configured for in the Device Manager.

On second thought make sire you have a SoundBlaster DOS
type device in the device manager.

Forgive me if this has been asked before...

I just installed WIn98 and re-installed N2 (all patches etc..) but I can't
get any sound in Windows.  Every time I try to set it up it freezes up.  I
booted into DOS and auto-detected it fine, runs in DOS with sound fine,
re-boot into windows and...nothing!

Also, I'm getting one of those cheap $49 V2 from Creative and am curious to
know if they work (and the 3dfx patch) in DOS for N2?  I realize my system
is behind the times, and a full upgrade is coming soon (recent college
grad..) so please be kind...

Thanks

Thanks Greg, but it still doesn't work.

I'm using an ESS Audiodrive.  Dos says its on 220 IRQ 0 DMA 0, Windows has
it set up for 220 IRQ 10 DMA 3.  I tried to reconfigure windows manually to
IRQ 0 DMA 0, but the option doesn't exist in manual config.

How do I know if my device is a  'Dos type' in device manager?

Mike

My SBPCI64 (AudioPCI) has an entry in the Device manager under
Sound, video and game controllers for 'Soundblaster PCI64 Legacy
Device'. When I go to the properties for this device there is a tab for
'DOS Application Settings'. It is set to Port 220, IRQ7, DMA1 which
are normal soundblaster DOS values. I am fairly certain that DOS
programs cannot deal with IRQ 0 or 10. The SBPCI64 is only using
one IRQ within W98 (IRQ9).

up.  I booted into DOS and auto-detected it fine, runs in DOS with sound fine,
re-boot into windows and...nothing!

I had similar problems.  Try this:  go to your autoexec.bat and config.sys
files and put a REM in front of every line.  You don't need these files anyway
with win98.  I would first uninstall the nascar game, then put the "rem" in the
autoexec and config files, then reboot, then reinstall nascar and configure
your sound card.
