Hi John,

You will find a file called "vroc.ini" in the VROC folder.  Replace the URL
in the file with the following IP address: 216.7.136.5

Here is step by step guide that someone else put togther (I forget who , but
***y good job he did) anyway, follow it and you'll be up and running.

Stu C

"Small problems getting either VROC program running correctly are really the
norm, and not the exception to the rule [and know, too, that my own
experience lies only with WinVROC and not JavaVROC--what follows may apply
only to to WV.]

First, if you can log into the WinVROC chatroom you'll usually find at least
one guy who will help you get going...so DO try and do that soon. If
nothing else, you'll get real-time hands on help and can quickly eliminate
the easy stuff.

-------

But just in case you do want to go it alone....

1). You must first download and install GPL.exe version 1.2 from:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/ (downloads...get the correct country too).

Make sure this latest version of GPL runs correctly offline and ensure, too,
that you have entered at least one driver NAME. When you boot it offline,
you should see "1.2.0.1" in red characters at the lower right corner of the
opening splash screen and go drive a few feet, just to prove you can....

2). Next, do a SEARCH for this filename: "vroc.ini"

If you find it, save it in your "WinVROC" folder, which will probably be
fournd here: "c:\program files\vroc\winvroc"

If you DON'T find it, you can either download it from VROC (I believe it is
called the "permanent fix"), or simply make it yourself with the desktop
"NOTEPAD" utility (or any other word processor).

The file has only two simple lines:

[VROC]
Address=216.7.136.5

Save as a PLAIN TEXT file, again titled "vroc.ini" as described above.

If you HAVE found it on your PC, you might also want to open it and check
that its reads the same as you see here...The address is for the VROC
racelist server.

3). If you've done these things, then the next time you are connected to
the web and you start WinVROC, you'll probably be able to login and get a
race server list in the upper half of the main screen (the chat window is
usually down below--GPL is the room we all use). If all is now working
properly, you'll see a racelist with colored boxes on the left side [red,
green, yellow and blue]. If the boxes are all RED, then you need to "reset
the path" your GPL main folder--you should only need to do this once.

The RESET is is done with the pull down menus at the top left
corner...select "VROC" and then "OPTIONS" and you'll see the path WinVROC
will use to find your copy of GPL.exe version 1.2 (which should be in your
GPL main folder). Odds are the path will already be correct, but RESET it
once anyway using the browse icon (folder icon) at the right side...just
move it to any other folder, and then move it right back again. Now exit
WinVROC and reenter (restart) again. You should now see a muticolored
racelist.

(The other convenient way to reset the path is to use the "CTRL+O" keys).

[If you still have nothing at this point, check in the lower right hand
corner when you are in WinVROC--it should say "GPL 1.2.0.1" and not "GPL
0.0.0.0*" If it doesn't, then WinVROC is somehow missing the fact that you
are running the latest version (or perhaps you really should verify that you
are once again offline :D ). When in doubt, double and triple check the
path to your GPL.exe program. This indicates either the path is still
wrong or that you don't have GPL.exe version 1.2 (aka 1.2..0.1).

-------

The server list shows a number of useful things I won't go into here. What
I WILL say though, is that to finally enable the 'join' button, you must
first SELECT a green, yellow, or blue (meaning passworded) race server with
the mouse. ;) Obvious, maybe, but you wouldn't be the first guy to
overlook it.

I'll stop jabbering now, as I imagine you are already out there cutting fast
laps. Have fun..."

 --snip--

Good post, and as mentioned, it must be 2 lines. The [VROC] on top,
the IP on the second line (all info on 1 line and the blasted thing
will not work, trust me..<g>).
