Tested the demo yesterday on my Cel566 and Voodoo3. I didn't have much
time so I only tried free practice. Here is some observations.
Positives:
- Sence of speed. It really felt like flying
- Virutal***pit. I really liked the way the POV is "looking" at the
apex. The 3D implementation is so much better than the 2D scrolling of
C:PR.
- Sound. Great wind effects.
Negatives:
- The FF. Whats with the constant shaking of the wheel. I don't know
if this is realistic or not, but it was a bit freaky.
- The menu system. I don't want to click flashy buttons, i want to
race.
- Camera position at the start. I don't know if this is editable, but
I really would like to be put in the***pit right away.
- Sound. Lousy engine sound.
Haven't decided yet:
- The physics. Unlike the very twitchy (sp?) F1 2000, I was able to do
some really nice sweeping corners a Suzuka. I was still able to feel
the limit. Compared to F1 2000 when I feel I have to come to a
complete stop every corner (may be cause by bad setups) F1 WGP had a
better flow. Well, I've put myself into the realism/fun discussion
again, so I probably stop here.
Outright hilarios:
- The inside helmet cam. Couldn't see anything. Original idea though,
just not any useful.
Conclusion:
If I find it in a bargain bin someday, I may buy it. I would put it
alongside TOCA 2 as a "fun to race" game.
Frustration:
I'm starting to think that modern F1 sims is not what I really like to
drive. The realistic ones like F1 2000 and GP2 is too difficult for
me, and the others doesn't seem to appeal. Bring on a CART sim, pretty
please with sugar on top.
