The fast setup won't work here.  I havent been able to locate a Expert
setup.  Any ideas?  I have a decent setup that will last the race.

I have a setup that will do 220 on Mulsanne. It does well everywhere else.
The only problem with it, is 1st and 2nd are real slow.
It might be a good place to start, and then just set one setup as the one we
use. Install it on the server and use it.

Well, in lieu of a decent fixed setup, can we make it an open race?

I'll be willing to run with whatever...

Whatever is going to happen needs to happen soon :)

Mitch,

I'm not so sure the FAST setup is all that bad...

It tops out at about 115 on that long straight, with about 500 revs left.
When I think of the incredible drafts we are going to find ourselves in
here, you can't really change the gearing any shorter.  I tried it one notch
and was on the light.  With the draft, we'll be blowing engines.

This much I know.  This track has a Pucker-Factor of 10, that's for sure :)

One mistake here, and you are definitely done for the day.

One other thing that should be considered is changing the track.ini to match
the settings shown at
http://www.theuspits.com/sims/nascar_racing/tptcc-faq.html.  I haven't tried
this yet, but it might be a solution to the right front temp problem.

We are talking about the 8 mile course here right?  If so,  think you
meant 215.  Anyway, I don't see how setup matters that much here for a
fixed league race... I mean it is not like it is uncontrollable.  BTW,
in the draft I was hitting 220+.  Either way, the guy that doesn't
touch the walls will win here... touch the walls and your car simply
dies.

Should we consider reducing the damage level if it is unrealistic at this
track?

Nah, it's my only chance to have a decent finishing spot... just sit
in the pits until everyone touches the walls and loses their engines.

Yes, 215.

And you're right.  The only skill needed is to not touch anything.  If you
do, you're gone.

Hopefully that's out of my system after last week :)

Don't know if you guys will like it, but I've uploaded a Sarthe race
setup to my website yesterday.

Nice setup Achim. I did a 305.8 with it just now. It handles very nicely,
especially during the long, sweeping right hander at the end of the s/f line
straight. Hit 204 before braking. I think I lose time to you under braking.

Is there a replay analyzer that I can use to view our laps side by side?

It's too late though to use your setup for the RASCAR race Sat., but glad
you made it available. People have been practicing with JS's setup (also
very good, 306.3 is my best so far) this week, and the main difference (to
me at least) between the two seems to be the gearing.

I think Achim's gearbox and JS's chassis is a real good setup.

I optimized 5th for the other three straights, using 6th only on
Mulsanne-that seemed to help.  Alas even the latest version of
Replay Analyser doesn't work-doing a quick and dirty comparison
Achim is much faster than I am through the first righthander
leading to the Indianapolis lefthander, and also beats me
pretty handily in Maison Blanche, tho he burns off enough
momentum on the exit that I match his speed at the S/F.  I
have a replay of a John Prather 3:03 lap he did in a race I
was in with him, and he is either burning his engine out, or
did something arcane because his top speeds are unreal,
approaching 220 at the end of Mulsanne. 8-o

Thanks for the info, David.

Regarding the Replay Analyzer, Martin Granberg's N2003RA allows you to
compare two or more laps in realtime (the cars being represented by
lines drawn on the track in realtime).

It also has a 'merge' feature, but I've never tried that and don't know
whether it simply appends the one to the other so you get one file, or
whether it actually overlays the two cars.

> I think I lose time to you under braking.

I just remembered, I've been asked by someone else regarding my braking
just recently. He said he can't avoid locking up when braking as hard as
I do.

I didn't think of this at first, but it could very well be the pedals
I'm using. These E3000 pedals have improved my braking and accelerating
considerably, I'm a lot cleaner and smoother now thanks to them.

Maybe that's the reason why you lose time under braking. Just guessing
here of course.
