I've always been off and on when it comes to making my own setups, but
right now I'm following the old Steve Smith-ism (from 4 wheel drift or
the cart guide - I forget which) where he said that fiddling with the
setup gives you something interesting to do while putting in the
hundreds of laps you need to really know a track well.
Additionally, and I really don't mean this to be vicious, I have no
idea how you guys can run Achim's setups. I had a brief fling with
setups that had soft front bars with stiff shocks and I came about as
close to motion sickness as you can get in front of a PC. I have to
admit that I'm currently a sucker for soft springs/shocks and stiff
bars as it seems to provide the best combination of lateral agility,
grip, top speed, and overall responsiveness (both in terms of how
readily the car reacts to driver input, and how the car's attitude is
relayed back through the sim).. It helps that TA cars seem to be
largely immune to the unpredictable handling that comes into play when
Cup cars bottom out. You can almost get away with 150/450 springs
even at Mosport since slamming the car against the hill at Moss
doesn't cause much in the way of instability.

I guess most people tweak them a bit. Some drivers
I know increase the front a-r bar stiffness a bit.

Makes sense. I could see someone who is an aggressive LFB'er would
probably like them too, just for my style they're horrible. =) I
suppose that's why there's a garage, eh?

My Cup car road setups were tweaked for driveability. Even the first set
of TA setups were tweaked more towards driveability. But I got several
requests from people who said they wanted to give the original setups a
try, so I started uploading these.
The echo was mixed - some said they like them better, others said they
can't drive them anymore. One guy even said they make him seasick <g>
The main difference is that most of the new batch are a bit on the loose
side, except on tracks where many directional changes in quick
succession are required.
The a-r bars as I set them are a compromise. I'm just thinking that
stiffer bars basically increase tirewear and reduce grip. So I use as
little bar as I can without losing laptime.
You might want to try a 1000/1000 combination and see if that makes them
driveable for you.
Another thing where I usually sacrifice for grip is the rebound. I want
the wheels to return to the ground as quickly as possible. That OTOH
makes the car sway and wobble more. So increasing the rebound a click
may also make the car feel more stable (while in reality of course it
isn't).
