GPL with GeForce 3 ~ 25 fps at start, Normal?

by Benqui » Wed, 14 Nov 2001 10:48:09

I have TBird 1400 GeForce 3 with 12.41 drivers, GPL with latest D3D patch
running 1024 x 768 with everthing on, detail at Max.

My FPS at start of race is always ~24-26 fps and even after playing with
core.ini D3D settings (Z Buffer, Mirror..). . Soon after the start of the
race it goes to ~36fps.

Is this normal?

Thanks

If you're starting near the back, then yeah it's completely normal,
especially on a graphics-intensive course like Monaco for example. If you're
starting from the front it probably should be pretty close to 36, but as
long as it gets to 36 quickly you're fine.

In case you weren't aware, the frame rate in GPL is capped at 36.

Yes, I'm starting from the back.

I guess I just learn GPL prefer V5500 over GeForce 3...

Thanks.

I was at Monza and I had 36fps with all 19 cars in front of me with the
resolution at 1600x1200. I am running an Athlon XP 1700+ and a  geforce 3
clocked to 210/501.

This is no too surprising given that PC and that track (Monza is easy on the
FPS). You probably won't get 36 at the start in Monaco with 19 cars in front
but you might...

GPL was written when a PII 266 was a high-end PC!

Have you installed all the 16-bit updates and car sets? I'm sure you can
find something to bring your frame rate down :)

I think u all need to be more specific:

P4/1.8Gb + Elsa G3

I get 36fps from the back of the grid ONLY if the slider bar in the graphics
option is set to minimum. Set to maximum (with all other options on) I get
19-20fps and set halfway I get 25fps

There is no way any current PC however setup can get 36fps at the back of
the field of 19 at that resolution with everything maxed out on any track,
period!

3DMark score 6860 (no overclocking)

You can use the online starting grids for offline play to get 36fps at
all times.

I find Spa (race-start in the back row) rough on frame-rate too, I'll
have to compare with Monaco.

I did have 36fps at monza with 19 cars in front of me. The car was the GPLEA
Lotus but no additional textures were loaded for the track. Bascially I
loaded the lotus and nothing else. I had just installed it
Maybe I need to take a screen shot.

Or it may not be.  I believe that the more sounds you have coming in will also tend to decrease your frame rate, and you always have more sound on the grid than at any other time in the race.

You can improve the frame rate a lot by decreasing details to 1/3 only. You
don't see the difference.
