madcatz andretti wheel good or evil?

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this wheel, as I'm looking
for a new setup to replace my sad T2 rig.Suggestions welcome (in the 100$
range) Thanks.

I got one in Mid November and am very pleased with it.  The digital steering
is GREAT - but since it is digital it is not compatible with some older DOS
games.  The only other weak feature is the pedals - a bit soft at first but
I'm well used to them by now.  POV switch is another nice feature for games
that may use it in the future.

I bought the Andretti wheel, based on a good review of it, and because
I've been a loyal fan of Mario for 30 years.  The wheel seems excellent
as long as you don't want force feedback.  The pedals, however, are
terrible in my opinion.  They're too big, too far apart, and the
location of the pivot points in relation to their size makes it almost
impossible for me to rest my heel on the base while working the pedals.
I don't, for one moment, believe that Mario ever actually used those
pedals in a racing sim, or he wouldn't have accepted that.

A more important problem for me is that while I've gotten the wheel
working right in some games, including Sierra's CART (the former ICR2),
I haven't gotten it to work with GPL.  I've seen a reference on this
newsgroup to a problem with DirectX 7.0 and MadCatz's drivers, but I'm
still fishing for a solution.  In the meantime, I keep rereading
Alison's review of the Logitech force feedback wheel, and thinking I
was foolish to try and save the price difference.  I think I'll wind up
following her advice, and I'll give the Andretti wheel to a friend who
isn't concerned about running GPL.  So I wasted money instead of saving
any.
