RBR - Best Force Feedback Ever?

I'd have to say that this is probably the only sim I've played where the FF
is truly helpful and not just a gimmick.  The best thing about it is that on
my Logitech Momo I didn't have to adjust a thing.  The defaults just felt
right.  I guess that figures seeing as the Logitech logo is featured fairly
prominently in the game.  I've used FF in other games like LFS, F1C, GPL,
RT, GTR Demo etc and even after some serious tweaking I still always had the
feeling that the FF was adding more artificiality than realism to the games.
I love the way the steering goes 'light' when the weight is transferred away
from the front wheels and how the steering is heavy when the car is
stationary.  I can also feel when the rear of the car is about to break
loose.  It's amazing how many other sims can't get these simple aspects of
FF correct.  I didn't fully realise how good the FF was until I forgot to
plug the power into my wheel and tried to play without it!  Kudos to Wartog
for producing such excellent FF which is obviously bound very tightly to
their equally excellent physics engine.

Steve

PS  How are non-logitech owners finding the FF?

Steve,

Non logitech owners are taking it in the collective rear ends.  I ordered
the game from the UK and am now stuck hoping for a patch to fix the pedals
controls.  I don't think that FF works on other wheels than logitech.  Their
own website says that Logitech is the only wheel they officially support.
If I sound bitter  I AM, lol.  I was looking forward to this one and don't
want to tear apart my ECCI wheel to attempt to be able to run it.

I have a Thrustmaster Ferrari FF, setup was a snap.. the setup screen
confused me for 2 seconds by listing Split-Axis and Brake and Gas
separately..

I hope you do realize that, not to sound like a***. But just assign your
pedals to the "BRAKE AND GAS" don't assign the Brake pedal to "BRAKE" and
gas to "GAS", those are for split axis.

The same with steering, dont' assign turning left to "LEFT" and turning
right to "RIGHT" just asign that one axis to "LEFT AND RIGHT".

As for FF, again.. no problems once I enabled it in the menu and checked to
see if it's direction is right.

I don't know if the ff in RBR is the best ever, but I do know that the ff in
F1C and GTR (game engine by ISI), is tremendous. It's excellent in N2003 as
well.

In F1C, I feel everything you described above, and a lot more. It's even
better with the RH2004 addon.

LFS is highly dependant on the caster settings of your suspension setup.
As you crank up the caster, the steering feel improves dramatically.
Netkar has really impressive steering feel too.  The Mini Cooper is almost
a dead-ringer for the real thing.

But he (and everyone else) would want to use split axis...wouldn't they?

Yes, Netkar is pretty good and LFS is reasonable and like David said, F1C
(which I think previously had the best FF) is good too.  I still believe
that RBR is another league altogether though when it comes to FF.

I thought this was a problem with COMBINED axis... my fault..

RBR is the best ff I've experienced.  Have played a lot of lfs (ff is a
bit average, imho) and a bit of gtr, which also had very good ff...

F1C and NR2003 are good when set up right, but RBR was fantastic from the
start.  The amazing thing is how natural the resistance feels.  I've gotten
F1C and NR2003 close, but they would either be smooth but too light or
well-weighted but a tad notchy.  This is on a DFP btw.  The best part is
that RBR doesn't confuse things by obviously translating vehicle weight
transfer to the wheel.  That aspect of F1C and NR2003 always bugged me
though I've managed to minimize it.  LFS is good in that respect, but I
still think RBR feels better.

says...

My MS FFW works perfectly. The game even recognized it by showing me a
little graphic of my wheel on the right when I went to the control
setup.

Hiya all..
Just wondered if anyone has used the `Thrustmaster F1 force feedback
racing wheel(Formula 1 world champion replica wheel , officially licensed
by Ferrari?) on a non-F1 game..like a Rally game such as RBR, Colin McCrae
4 etc.
Hardware review reckons it was unsuitable for non-F1 type games!. I'm
still waiting for mine in the post!!.
Any feedback would be appreciated
Thanks in advance
Tazzy
