F1 2000 lock ups

Just installed my copy of F1 2000 and it locks up in the menus at what
appears to be random places. If I'm lucky enough to make it to a race, the
game carries on without any problems. When I stop the race and go back to
the menus it locks up again. However I'm not able to change any of the
options for controller, video etc.

My PC is

P3 667 on a Tyan 1854 M/B
256Mb of PC133 RAM
SB Live 1024, Voodoo 3 3500
Adaptec 2910 SCSI card with an internal Yamaha CD writer and ext Zip 250
Netgear 10/100 network card
USB Modem
CD & DVD drive
UDMA 66 disks

All with latest drivers as far as I can tell.
