NASCAR 2 Installation in Windows 95 (OSR2)

by Mathew Star » Sun, 22 Feb 1998 04:00:00

I get a divide by zero error when I try to install this program in
Windows 95.  I more than meet all the requirements.  If anyone can help
please let me know.  I have tried copying the files to one of my hard
disks, but that has not solved the problem.

I have the following on my system
Intel Pentium 233 MMX
ASUS TX97 Motherboard
96 MB RAM
    (1) 64 MB SDRAM
    (1) 32 MB SDRAM
Matrox Mystique Video Card
Diamond Monster 3D
Creative Labs 16 PnP
Creative Labs MPEG Decoder Board
USR 33.6 Int Fax/Modem
12x CD-ROM slaved on the secondary IDE channel
Creative Labs DVD-ROM slaved off the Sound Blaster 16 PnP

Mathew,

I ran into that "divide by zero" error while installing N2 also.  There is
info regarding that at the sierra web site.  I believe that you need to
remove the sierra.ini file from your windows directory, run the install
program again from the N2 CD, and DO NOT select "test system".  Please try
the Sierra web site to verify this info.

Most likely you have a FAT32 drive with more than 2GB of free space.
This screws up the Windows install program, as it thinks you have
negative disk space.  Either fill up your HD, or just install it from
DOS.

I don't know if you are aware, but TX chipset can only cache 64MB of
RAM.  That extra 32MB DIMM is actually slowing things down.  Just
thought you might want to know...

now Eric...I'm sure he knew his fire-breathing system bogs down with
more than 64k.  I'm sure he has a very good reason for that extra
32k...doesn't he???

I have a GA-586TX2 motherboard...are you saying that more than 64 MB  would
slow my system down? Can you explain?

No problem... the error message results from the installer not
properly recognizing something in your hardware.  Delete the
sierra.ini file located in the C:\windows directory and then restart
tyour computer. Start up the Nascar 2 installer. When it asks you if
you want to test your system click NO. The next screen will say you
have failed several of the system tests. Ignore that and continue with
the installation. The game will then install properly.

One more thing... the TX motherboard can only cache 64 megs of RAM...
the 32 megs over that are slowing down your systems performance.
