GPL beta OpenGL at 1024*768 problem

by Keit » Tue, 15 Dec 1998 04:00:00

I can run at 1024*768 fine but get occasional lockups on my CreativeLabs
GraphicBlaster TNT AGP. The PC will respond to a Ctrl-Alt-Delete and
shows the Papyrus Window is not responding. After killing the window,
GPL can be restarted but now 1024*768 only comes up with about half the
screen drawn (the left half) and the rest is black. The menus are all
fine, this is only when racing. After switching to 640*480 the race is
fine, full screen is drawn. The 1024*768 problem will persist until the
PC is rebooted.

Anyone else have this problem? Is this a known beta OpenGL driver
problem? Otherwise the PC is rock solid stable, and will run at 640*480
with no problems ever. Other games are fine too, and I would really like
to get 1024*768 working reliably with GPL, it looks so much better than
640*480.

I've had the same thing with a Diamond Viper 550 on an Asus MB so It would
seem to be the drivers rather than the cards

Glad to hear I am not the only one. Back to Monaco...

Is this with Creative's drivers or the latest reference drivers from
NVidia?

The 0.48 nvidia reference drivers. Only GPL has problems on my PC, which led
me to suspect the GPL beta OpenGL patch.

Not the say the rasterizer is perfect (it's still beta), but remember
that the rasterizer is making some OpenGL calls that other games really
are not (glCopySubImage2D for example) so some issues with the current
drivers may not be readily apparent in other games.

Great point, I feel good that this will be fixed in time with new nvidia
drivers and/or final GPL OpenGL patch.

I've had the problem with my Rendition card, so I don't think it's
the hardware or the OpenGL drivers!

I've had the problem with my Rendition card at lower resolutions,
so I don't think it's the hardware or the OpenGL drivers!  It seems
to happen more often at graphically busy circuits (e.g., Monaco).
