Like a few other people my machine isn't quick enough to run big grids with
FF enabled, this doesn't particularly bother me so I disabled it....

.....problem is, I have to disable it every time I start the game, is there
a way to permanently disable it? I have a MS Sidewinder wheel....

PS Did I read somewhere that N3 is out in the UK today?

You can disable FF permantly by adding this to your gp500.ini file.
[GameSettings]
ForceFeedback=false

There are many other settings that can be changed and are listed in the gp
troubleshooting .txt file.
