N2: The *&%# thing keeps locking up!

I have a Pentium 100 with 24 megs of ram running Windows 95 and just
about every time I play N2 the (expletive deleted) thing locks up.  It
seems to run better in DOS but not much.  It always locks up on me when
I try to race a championship season.  When I run in Windows 95 it
usually gives me an error message and then a memmory address.  In Dos it
always crashes on the first try giving me some memmory address and then
when I run it again it works, for a while.  I have yet to play the game
for longer than 15 to 20 minutes with out it locking up.  Anyone have
this problem or have any solutions?  Please help.

Most ridiculously frequent crashes are caused by misconfigured
hardware (or mismatched drivers, etc.) The best way I can think of to
narrow it down is to turn off sound, turn off UniVBE, turn off the
joystick, etc. If that's stable, turn those things on one at a time
until you find the instability and then troubleshoot that (new
drivers? bad IRQ/DMA settings?, etc). If, with everything off, it
still crashes, you need to look at more basic things, like "is your
memory actually good?" "Have you overclocked your system?" "Is your
CPU fan installed?" etc...

You could also try tech support at Sierra. (Probably

I'm sure thats what you *&%#en meant

Shit, Fart and Corruption

Anyway I too "HAD" the exact same problem as you.  I was
getting the memory address errors too. I took out my memory
sims (2 x 8meg Fast Page) and discovered they were mis-matched
speeds. Put two in that were the same speed and have never had
a crash/lockup since,(2 months). I have since replaced the lot
with 32 meg EDO and still all is racing fine.
