Voodoo1 vs Voodoo2

I have a Diamond Monster 3D Voodoo1 add-on card with 4MB now.  Staples has
the Voodoo2 12MB add-on card on sale this week for $50 after rebate.  Would
I see a noticeable improvement or be able to get higher resolutions with
this card?

My equipment is Pentium 233MMX, 64MB RAM, ATI Mach64 2D video.  The sims I
use are Nascar99, SCGT, Midtown Madness, CPR, and Viper Racing.

Yes, you will see major improvements. Grab one, or better two and run them
SLI.. that way you'll be able to run GPL at 1024x768 offline with most
graphics on, and easily manage 800x600 online.
Hope this helps

sorry I replied a bit quickly - didn't see your comp specs and the games you
like. I was a bit optimistic about resolutions there! Nevertheless the
voodoo2 will give you a very significant improvement. 3DFx cards tend to
like faster processors, and if you DO play GPL, with a P233MMX Hercules
Rendition Thriller is the way to go.
See ya

No, actually he probably won't see a major difference with a Pentium 233.
Probably no more than a 6-8 fps increase.  Now, if he wants to invest in
the V2 with a future processor upgrade in mind, that's a different story.

On Mon, 30 Aug 1999 09:10:44 -0400, "Bill Jones"

I remember going from VD-1 to VD-2, running on an AMD 233
(overclocking to 250). It made a huge difference in frame-rate, as
long as the game/sim did not overpower the CPU.

For instance, after going to Voodoo-2,  Grand Prix Legends finally
ran VERY smootly in practice mode (gagged on voodoo-1), but the CPU
couldn't handle races (too much A/I stuff going on). Another game (Red
Baron II) tripled in frame-rate, but the CPU suffered when huge
battles took place.
