Voodoo2: N2 vs. F1RS performance (1st post was incomplete)

(sorry if a partial post of this was sent before)

My basic question is,  is N2 a more graphically-demanding sim than
F1RS?  (see below)...

I've been running F1RS 1.09 for several months on this configuration:

300MHz PII
64MB RAM
12MB Orchid R3D-II (voodoo2)
Turtle Beach A3D soundcard
CH GameCard
TSW

and have been very impressed by how smooth the graphics are throughout
the race.  It seems like the framerate is always above the 30fps
range, because I don't notice any choppiness (not even in the first
turn).  I have maximum graphics options turned on (including replays).

I just installed N2 (50th anniversary edition) and its 3dfx patch last
week.  It does run, and I have followed the advice of several postings
about setting up the batch file, changing the executable name, etc.
etc. so that the patch will work.  I'm running the batch file under a
DOS window from Win95 instead of just rebooting into DOS and running
it there, because N2 doesn't want to recognize my TSW when rebooting
into DOS.

Anyway, I'm less than thrilled with the framerate.  I'd figured that
with the system I have, the performance would be much smoother.  I do
have all the graphics options turned on, with the expectation that
this system could handle it.  N2-3dfx  just seems to be noticeably
slower than I'd have thought.

I'm wondering if this is due to greater demands that N2 has, such as
drawing so many cars at once.  With F1RS, you'll usually only have a
few cars on screen once the race really gets underway.  With N2 you'll
obviously be displaying many more cars much more frequently (on any of
the ovals, anyway).

I also haven't been able to find a website with significant details
about how to maximize the performance of N2 with the 3dfx patch, while
still being able to have most or all of the N2 graphics options turned
on.

TIA for any suggestions,

Dave

F1RS was made specifically for W95 and Glide (the 3dfx
native programming). N2 was written for DOS with
optimizations for the rendition 3D cards, and was ported
to 3dfx. The result is kind of weak as you noted.

Actually, I'm embarrased to admit, but I think it's me that's kind of
weak.  I just noticed in the "Graphics" screen in N2 that you can turn
up the FPS to 30.  Just now tried that, and lo and behold...nice and
smooth graphics performance with the Voodoo2.

Major-league-DOH!

Sorry for the bandwidth-wastage of my earlier post,

Dave
