Maybe when we all have 3D-graphics boards it will be possible to have
a stantardized track format for these games. The problem now is that
the 3D format is highly dependent on the nature of very individual 3D
graphics engines. But if you had a standard 3D engine (i.e., the
graphics board) it should be possible to develop standard formats for
all kinds of 3D game data. And I'm sure programming tool companies
will be working towards this goal. Then they can sell game parts and
data to people who can then develop 3D games without needing an
advanced understanding of 3D mathmatics, perspective, and 8086
assembly language (and the 2 years it takes to put it all together
into a great 3D engine).
