Im ready for a FF wheel.

Howdy all,

I don't come here often (too busy racing I guess) but I've finally broken my
last spring in my T2 pedals and Thrustmaster (now using my CH rudder pedals
for the interm) says the part is no longer available. I'm really stumped
too, they are selling the T2 on their website for $69 but still say they
don't have the part anymore. What gives? I can still get parts for a 1974
Pinto, for crying out loud, but can't get a freaking part for a two year old
game controller? Oh well.

I realize that this is most likely a dead subject but I need good honest
opinions about FF wheels. I was seriously looking at the ACT Labs, or the
Logitech, or the V4, but am willing to explore other options. Is FF even
necessary? Should I just bone-up and get the Thomas Wheel or save up for an
ECC?

I really want ACCURATE FF feel (little or no delay in response time) without
bone jarring response to curbs and shifts. I also HAVE TO HAVE paddle
shifting. I'm running F1RS and N2 (waiting for GP3 and N3) but I'm not
super-serious about my racing. I don't race online against ya'll but really
want to do well in my own world. Get it?

Really trust the opinions posted here and look foward to the responses.

Later doooods,

I had the same issue with my T2, so I ponied up for an MSFF wheel.  I love
it.  It is optical and fully digital, so it never needs calibrating, and I
even get an increase in framerate (albeit a small one).  The best part of it
for me is the shifting, the buttons are placed perfectly behind the spokes.
It took me a while to get used to the pedals, but now it is like second
nature.  Another benefit is how solid it feels.  I can run down the
backstretch at Monza in GPL and actually take my hands off the wheel, this
is great for those long endurance races.  I run it without the FF enabled in
GPL, but with the FF button on the wheel on.  It just feels great., and the
resistance is perfect for me  I recommend it to anyone.  Of course the
Thomas is probably a better choice, but for 116 bux ( I took a costco
webpage to circuit city and they beat the costco price by 10%), I think this
is a great wheel.

Don't expect too much from the FF effects in F1RS (or MGPRS2, the one i've
got): It's a bit disappointing. don't know about N2. I myself own a Logitech FF
Wheel which is really great (some think the pedals are ***but I think you
have to get used to them). If you want good FF (and not only that but also the
best racing sim) buy GPL and upgrade it with the 1.1 patch (includes FF
support). It's simply the best there is.

That's really sad.  TM support used to be good.  You might want to see if
the local hardware store has a spring in about the right size.

Check deja.com.  There are about 2394732947349 posts on this subject.

I like the LWFF.  The only problem is that the pedals have weak resistance
and not enough travel.  Upgrading the springs made a big difference; I
haven't tried gouging away plastic to increase pedal travel yet.

I used to have a TM F1 wheel but traded it in after a long time of reading
how great FF was in this group, I was split between the Logitech and
Sidewinder but IMHO the pedals on the Logitech wheel looked ridiculously
small and not up to taking a bashing, of course I may be wrong as there are
many happy owners but when it comes to spending my money I want whats right
for me and the Sidewinder just 'feels' right. I have not installed MGPRS
since I got the wheel but I hear I am not missing much there FF wise but GPL
was hugely impressive with FF after using a conventional wheel. Viper Racing
is great with FF now and so is Midtown Madness when I just feel like a quick
bit of fun although I would say SCGT dissapointed me a bit on the FF side of
it. Go buy one, I'd recommend the Sidewinder after buyng one myself after
testing the Logitech and the Sidewinder..you won't regret it!

OK... lemee ask ya'll this.

I wet to Best Buy tonight and saw a Logitech FF wheel and came up with this
question:
What does the wheel do when not in Force Mode to re-center the wheel? Are
ther any resistive froces act work to at least simulate a non-FF wheel's
spring system?

The reason I ask is I'm regularly running Nascar2 and am not ready to buy
Nascar99 and waste the money when Nascar3 is just around the corner. As we
all know it is a DOS game with no FF models.

I'm now leaning towards scrapping the whole FF idea and getting a Ballracing
wheel. OR. Just waiting for FF technology to improve and get a Andretti
Wheel as a stop-gap. Any opinions about either of these?

To confirm my opinion (w.r.t. LWFF and GPL) please visit alison hine's site
(http://www.racesimcentral.net/) and have a look at the help/controllers/force
feedback page: If GPL with FF is your goal there's only one answer: LWFF!!!!!

Nascar2 can run in Win95/98 and you can download a profile for the MS
Sidewinder Wheel for Nascar2 from their site
http://www.microsoft.com/products/hardware/sidewinder/profiler/profil...
I have not tried it myself yet though. As for your other question, when not
in FF mode ie ones designed with FF support you can create your own game
'profiles' which you can load in and customise the auto centre etc. If you
don't create a custom profile it just uses a spring to centre effect like a
normal wheel would.

I've tried several times you configure my MSFF with Nascar2,but I've
never gotten the wheel to work right.
