NASCAR game???

Howdy y'all...while venturing around the metro center mall in phoenix...I
discovered a game called  Daytona USA...apparantely a NASCAR arcade game
along the lines of Virtua Racing (both of which are made by SEGA) just
wondering if any one else has seen it and what they think of it.  I had
several problems with the way the game was setup (strength of responsive
steering, size of wheel, knee room, views) but all in all a good game.
Any other thoughts???

NASCAR game???

Here's some of my thoughts on the game.
The tension on the steering wheel is actually about right for what it would be
in real life. The response of the throttle is good, but I have a problem with
it not backing off as much as it should for a carb motor. The beginner track,
which I drive most of the time, is too short to believe the times recieved. I
figured that the track was about .9 miles long. Since it's named   Daytona USA,
why doesn't it feature the 2.5 mile, 25 degree banked turns, and stuff like
that. It could use a bit more leg room, and the seat should be a bit more
straight up. But overall, it's a great game.

I saw the above game in an arcade a few weeks ago and thought it was
great. It has really good graphics and sound. Two players can go at it
for head to head action. I didn't get to play it myself but it looked
like it was alot of fun. If you get a chance check it out.

I've seen it a couple of times, once at an arcade around my house, and a
second time at Reno. It was a great release after a lost a bundle of $$$
at the roulette table!
They had 4 of them linked together which was awesome. The only "problem"
I have with the game is the totally unrealistic sliding you have to do
to go really fast and finish the race, but it makes it fun :) !

NASCAR game???

Greetings to all "Daytona" fans out there,

Here are my thoughts and hints....

I discovered this great game in my local video arcade about a
month ago....and since then have become an partial ***!!  Depending on
the amount of time I have with university, I will usually spend about A$20
per week (the only game I have ever really spent money on!).  The textured
graphics are simple awesome, and the sound matches perfectly!  The first
time I played it with 2 friends, we pumped about A$70 between us into the
2 machines.

The steering response is the best I have known on a car simulator
(much better than Sega's last effort called Virtua Racer).  I particuly love
the gear change;  as it feels great throwing the stick through the gears
rather than simple pushing a lever either forwards or backwards.

The dynamics of the car is very realistic, because if you jump on
the brakes, the car's arse will lose traction.  Likewise if you throw the
car down to many gears, it will compression lockup again causing the car
to lose control.  The idea then (just like normal driving) is to go easy on
the brakes/accelerator and only change gear when really necessary!

Last week I went into Melbourne (Australia) and played it....there
they had 8 hooked up together, which made the game totally wild (a bit like
deathmatch with 4 players on Doom; simple hectic)!  What I like best is when
the your car gets damaged, there are dents all over and it shakes about
because of the loss of aerodynamics.  Also powersliding out of the corners
is great fun when you are opposite locking the steering wheel, plus hitting
the witches hats can be amusing....

It's funny watching people play the game and they are frantically
changing gear when it is totally not needed.  The first track there is only
one corner that needs a <quick> change down to 3rd before putting the car
back into 4th (also make sure that you put the car into 4th for the rolling
start; as it is amazing how many people I see starting the first track in
1st and then wondering why they fly out of control).  Also go easy on the
steering, otherwise you waste valuable speed!

The Advanced track is my favourite and the best time I have
completed a lap in is 44.76 seconds, with 9 seconds left over when I reach
the goal!  Again discretion should be used when changing gear; once you have
started (I find the best method is to simply floor the accelarator), the
only gears you should have to use are 3rd & 4th (unless of course you crash
out) and again don't jump onto the brake too visciously!

Unfortunately I cannot give you any advice for the Expert track, as
I tend not to play it as much as the other 2 tracks (usually because I am
playing with a friend and on that track you have to concentrate too much
rather than enjoy bumping each other).

Anyway I have talked for too long and have lecture to goto, so enjoy
the game and I hope that my advice has been of use....Actually I think that
I will skip the lecture and go play some Daytona now!!

Catch U Later, please mail me if you have any comments or suggestions.

I still think Ridge Racer is more fun to play. Drivingit is very easy and
you can do really fun slides with a chance of getting it back eventually
(which is very hard to do in Daytona) Ridge Racer II allows 3 other people
to play as well, and IMHO is better than a 2 player Daytona. Sure, the
graphics arent quite as good, but its more FUN.

Wrong! You don't have to do sliding to go fast. The fastest guy I've
seen playing this incredible game didn't do sliding at all!

Hello again,

I just thought I might add another $2 worth to this conversation....

I agree that Ridge Racer is fun to play, however I do not find the
steering to have any feel or response to it.  After playing Daytona I jumped
onto Ridge Racer ][ and had a hard time adjusting to its jittery controls!
It is just too easy to break the rear end out; however this is where I
suppose most of the fun in the game comes from.  With Daytona it is a little
harder at first to induce a slide, but with the right steering/throttle
technique I find it more rewarding to do so.

Basically I suppose it comes down to personal preference....when I
play a car racing game, I generally go for the ones that provide the most
realistic play, and that's what I found with Daytona.  With regards to the
number of players, it all depends on the quality of the arcade you goto;
where I normally play, I must admit they only have 2 Daytonas.  However at
other places they have 4 or 8 linked which provides for insane contests!
Any game once linked with more than 2 other machines becomes great fun, even
the older one such as Virtua Racing (they may lack realism) but you soon
forget about that when your duelling with 3 (or more) other cars!

Is that out for the home SEGA as well?
