Finally I got it all working - the dxtweak post from a couple of days
ago fixed my 50% deadzone problem, and now I found a Momo setup that
did the trick. The ff is pretty amazing with the setup posted in this
thread:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/~hg/forums/showthread.php?s=91dee7c7e43d9...

Now with working pedals and good ff F1 2001 gives a really terrific
driving experience.

I also tried the GT2.1 mod but personally I didn't really enjoy it.
The physics feel good, but I'm really having a problem judging the
speed in these cars.. without looking at the speed I can hardly tell
how fast I'm driving. Driving at 200mph gives me the impression of
driving at 50mph, making it very hard to drive these cars without
looking at the speed.
In a review at Simbin.com the reviewer says it's because of the high
pov of a Porsche 996, but I don't think it feels like 50mph when you
are going 200mph in a real Porsche.

Are there btw any AI improvements available for F1 2001? The AI is
not-that-bad but they could need some tweaking at most of the tracks.
They're too slow in the corners, too fast on the straights as far as I
have tested them.

Too slow in the corners? Only in the slow - medium corners I hope you mean,
because in my version they fly through high speed corners like there is no
tomorrow.

Yes, I mean at the slow corners indeed.

To me it's probably the only serious flaw, making it impossibe to do a
proper race.

I don't like the track width and textures at some places but for the rest
it's quite good. You can feel that there's a proper physics engine in place.
Although I do feel that the downforce levels are a bit too high, but you can
easily change them. I tried altering the frontwing, rearwing and body
downforce variable until I was doing the same speeds as in real life. I had
to cut them down by as much as 60-70% to get proper speeds.

Give the ALMS mod a try, the***pit view is better and gives a good
impression of speed.  It's a fair bit easier than the FIA mod.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. How is the AI compared to F1 2001's AI?

Yesterday I won a race at 120% AI level with 100% agression.
I was using the default Ferrari setup at Canada.
Am I amazingly good or is the AI amazingly bad?
You decide :)
