Needed: Ranking on VROC

This is what we need on VROC: a ranking system like on Sierra. The problem
with the current siituation is that you pay no penalty for dropping out. You
start on with12 runners and end up with 4. Plus a ranking system would rev
up general interest, get the competitve juices flowing, and reinvigorate
GPL.

I suppose, however, that the period of innovation on VROC is past and the
original developers have moved on to other projects. A shame, really.

There was talk about a "VROC 2" in some quarters not so long ago - I
don't have any info as to whether that's still a live project,
though. "VROC 1" itself is (I believe) not likely to be developed
further, and is not going to be open-sourced, so it really needs
someone to start again from scratch - not a particularly enticing
idea, I suspect.

Alison Hine mentioned this in her recent interview.  Whether it actually
is being worked on I don't know.  The original vroc source is unavailable,
so it would have to be a complete rewrite.

On Sierra there a 4 categories  which compose a ranking: short tracks, road
courses, speedways and SSs. Don't know how this would be sliced up for GPL,
maybe one global category. Plus an LPI rating.

My preference would be separate rankings for each track plus more
comprehensive stat keeping like best laps/ by chassis. I can't think of an
enhancement that would gas up the community better. (Aside from GPL2, of
course....).
