Nascar Heat-Avoiding Vehicles

Firstly, thanks to everyone in this NG whose helped me, a Brit trying to
learn the art of Nascar with Nascar Heat (patched version). However I have
another question, which this time involves the first few laps of a race. I
am playing in *** mode, and a strength setting of medium, hard or pro,
with 43 drivers. Whichever of the latter settings I choose though all the
competition want to do is crash into me. Things become easier once the pack
disperses after 5-10 laps, but I am finding it hard to stay in the race upto
that point. I have tried keeping up speed, and keeping some form of line,
but to no avail. Am I missing something here? Should I too be trying to
knock merry hell out of my competitors?

Any help appreciated.

The AI in heat are often blind...they want to get to point A on the track
and they don't care if your car is already there.  It's fun in the lower
skill levels, but on *** it pretty much sucks.    No you don't want to
wreck the other cars, you'll just damage your car and slow yourself down.
Try and stay consistant with your lines and hopefully before the end of
January, there will be a Second patch that will address these and other
issues..

It's not your fault Paul... The AI just cannot be consistently raced
successfully in my experience, which is why I've given up on this title for
the moment. They're slightly more welbehaved on road courses but even then I
suggest you run offline near the pits under yellow.

Ditto
If your having problems w/AI and your framerate is above 45+ then lower the
custom AI strength to 99% or less until you can get up to speed

The AI is stupid, they'll crash into you in the pits and run up your ass on
the track instead of going around.. that's extremely poor AI.

Ive NEVER been rear-ended on the track by the AI unless I really screwed up
None of my leagues members have either
We run Atlanta Daytona and Dega at 103%, all other tracks at 100%
The pitting problems are another issue and they are being worked on with the
upcomming patch
