Formula One ('96) PSX link mode AI opponents?

Can anyone tell me if you can race against computer AI opponents in a
2-player link mode race in F1'96 for PlayStation? I know you cannot  do
this in F1 CE  ('97) and I am hoping maybe the '96 version is different.
Is there or will there be any F1 game for PlayStation that allows you to
do this?
