GPL, Screen Resolution

by Jay » Sun, 21 Feb 1999 04:00:00

Hi.... I'm wondering if there are any other Riva TNT owners out there who
can get better than 640x480 res on GPL ???

I'm running a PII 266 (Intel) with an STB Velocity 4400 TNT card, have the
Beta2 OpenGL patch installed, but when I try to go to 800x600 or higher the
screen goes black when I "go to race" and the PC locks up with the engine
sound still idling in the background.

Can anyone help on this, or is 640x480 the best I'm gonna get?

Thank you!
Jay J

I posted here previously re: not being able to get GPL above 640x480 with my
CL TNT.  I tried all of the suggestions offered but still no luck.  I
finally went in and deleted windows/system/* and reinstalled Win98.  I tried
GPL at 800x600 and it worked -- although plug and play did not detect my
soundcard / game port.  Installed the latest sound card drivers (Ensoniq
AudioPCI clone) and GPL messed up again.  Deinstalled the latest drivers and
installed the drivers that came with my sound card -- couple of revisions
older.  Now GPL works fine and I can hear and steer!

Wow -- it is quite stunning at 1024x768!!!!  Using the Hercules drivers for
my TNT because Detonator gave me a NV4 ogl-related page fault.  Now if the
mirrors only worked idealy.

- When you say 640x480, is game screen resolution or windows screen
resolution?
- My GPL goes very well sound/screen, but it has only the screen option of
320x200 / 512x384 / 640x480
are there any patches/drivers to increase resolution?
- Windows resolution on my comp. goes ok on 1280x1024 32bits true colour
