It's great with a wheel, it's the best version of NFS since the
original. Most folks around here played it and liked it, but it's old
news now. (Wonder if they're working on a sequel?)
I loved it, played all the way through factory driver and the other game
modes as well. Lots of fun. Once I had completed all the various modes
though, it didn't last long on my hard drive. At that point you have lots of
money, your car is as tuned as it's gonna get, and you know the courses as
well as you're ever going to. But I got a good month (maybe) of play time
out of it.

Agree about the physics but not the tracks. I LOVED that they finally
got away from the horribly tired circuit-tracks formula and back to
the more realistic A-B tracks. It would have been just a so-so game
with only circuit tracks.

How do you guy's know that? The PC version wont necessarily be exactly like
the PS2 version.
Or have you looked at a pre beta version of the game?
Jone.
I completed factory driver and evolution mode using a standard Gravis Gamepad
(Ouch!!) and then after some upgrades redid it with a wheel. The wheel/pedals
adds a whole new feel and e***ment to any driving game and NFS:PU was no
exception.
I love the "P2P" roads too. After a few races you can kind of memorize them but
not as easily as a track. One road (can't remember the name) takes you though a
town and there are a ton of shortcuts/alternate routes, but watch out for fire
hydrants. :)
Also, the Autobahn is very cool. Too bad it's not the complete highway...
I have also recently gotten into rally racing and have Mobil1 BRC. Some of the
stages take 25-30mins+ to complete and are very demanding on concentration. It
presents a whole new dimension on driving. The cars max out at around 150mph or
so but when you consider the terrain that's VERY fast.
Haven't tried GPL with the wheel yet. Oddly enough, GPL and F12000 were the inital
reasons I wanted a wheel. I have tried it with F12001 and it's amazing.
Sorry, got off-track there a bit...

: has anyone here tried this, as i got a copy today and have been playing at
: the "factory driver" thang for a while, and am dead impressed. havent tried
: it with a wheel yet, but as i have experience of rally trophy and GPL on
: keyb, i would say it should be very good with a wheel (though some of their
: "challenges" would be easier on keyb)
: anyway, just wondering wot other opinions are out there...
Apparently EA Seattle is developing the PC, XBox and Gamecube versions, and
EA Canada is producing the PS2 version. I don't know whether that's good or
bad, from a PC player's point of view (anyone know who did which previous
NFS titles?).
Anyway I just picked this up from the official site:

It has great physics, great campaign mode, a mission-based factory
driver
mode, AND online support. I live close to EA's server in San Mateo, so
my
ping is like 20 ms. :-) have a great time racing (turns out I wasn't
that good).
If you need any help, check my NFS:PU FAQ on gamefaqs.com. It covers
all of the driving "tricks". If you know GPL these would be second
nature to
you, but for newbies it's worth reading, I hope. :-)

I have. I actually use a few of the things I learned from NFS5 in GPL. If I
spin, I try to turn it into a 360 and keep on going. I've even succeeded a
couple of times.
I don't use this in traffic, because it would result in my taking out
everybody around me but on a solo spin it's worth a try.
