Richard Burns Rally shit audio = shit game.

My Xbox  "Richard Burns Rally" test experience.

Played it $afe and rented it.

As soon as I heard the sound effects of the rally cars
available in the "Quick Rally" test I said
"What the *** is this !"
Driving a very cheap kids electronic drum set !
Instant ruin of realism !

One 10 minute test drive on my system and that was enough.
Handling was naturally awful.

The good ; the graphics were equal to CMR 04 and
the in-car-roll effect was likeable.
CMR 04 has much better in-car view !

Rally Equipment
Xbox console.
Sony 80cm progressive scan crt TV.
Sony QS receiver.
Sennheiser HD600 headphones.
I prefer headphones for better in-car sound realism.
Aura seat rumbler - attached to underside of seat.
Gives feeling of bumpy ride. :o)
It reacts to the audio via headphone socket.

Watch WRC everytime its on TV.

Own these Xbox auto sims so far ;

No.1 Colin Mcrae 04. car sounds are realistic !
Liked it instantly I played demo.

2nd for fun - RalliSport Challenge 01

Sorry, it's the handling in CMR04 and Rallisport that are s**t.  Perhaps
your brain has been tricked into thinking that those games are 'realistic'
Got news for you - they're not.  If you only play games to toss-off over the
sound & graphics then I don't doubt that you'd love CMR04.  Watch a few
replays though and you'll realise that CMR04's physics are absolutely s**t.
The sound in RBR isn't earth shattering but it's realistic enough and isn't
exaggerated like in most games.

I feel sorry for you that you don't posess enough skill to play a realistic
rally game.  Keep practicing...

Are you playing this with a force feedback wheel, or like, the xbox's
gamepad?

CMR physics and all other console racers physics are specifically designed
to be useable with gamepads and to give an enjoyable experience using it.
That's why one someone tries it with a wheel they realize how shit it is and
how much hidden programmed "aids" are actually helping them powerslide
around a corner and stuff.

The bad dance music sounds like shit, but if you're going for realism you
would have turned that off the instant you first hit the options menu. I'm
sure rally drivers dont' listen to bad techno while racing.

About the sound being shit... Knowing how crazy the RBR team is for realism,
I doubt the sound is too far off-base. Heck, maybe they're even simulating
what the car sounds like WITH a helmet and earphones on!! Something I never
personally thought of until now, but if the sound is muffled maybe that is
even the case (if so, I give them complete respect for it!).

I've played RBR with a Logitech Driving Force pro on PS2 and it's not a
dumbed down console game in any way, shape or form.  In fact it's the only
console driving game I've played which doesn't have a deadzone with a
steering wheel.  Also, the force feedback effects put just about all PC
simulations to shame as well.  Obviously there's no way you can play the
game as well with a thumbstick but it's still loads of fun trying.... <g>

The music doesn't play while you're driving - only in replays and it's very
simple to turn off (thankfully)

Nice mouth!  If you haven't got a good enough hold on the English
language to write a review without resorting to vulgar language, then
please leave your un-educated opinions to yourself!  Maybe you'll
learn the big words when you enter High School.

Regardless of if this person's review of RBR is accurate or not, I don't
think judging it simply because he said *** a few times is any more
intelligent.

I don't think this is true.   If the controls are designed well, it should
be playable with both a gamepad and a racing wheel.  The gamepad requires
non-linear steering to work well (and a small deadzone), whereas the wheel
needs a linear response and little or no deadzone.  The physics can be
identical.

The PS2 has some racing games with just as demanding physics as any PC
racing game.  V-Rally 3, for instance, has very demanding physics
(oversteer/understeer, loss of traction, etc.).  Gran Turismo 3's physics,
for the time, were also very complex (although sliding/spinouts were a bit
"canned" in the physics).

CMR 04's physics are about the same as Rally Masters (to me at least),
which is amusing because Rally Masters was said to have very realistic
physics at the time, yet people slam CMR 04 as being an arcade game. CMR 4
might even be a little more demanding.

Michael!  Am surprised at you!  I've known you long enough to know you
don't really feel that way.  I couldn't care less how he talks when he
is in an environment that doesn't FORCE somebody else have to listen
to it, or to read it.

The point of my note was not to chastise him because he USED the
word...it was because he forced me to have to read it.  I use the word
myself on occasion.  But not in the company of people that just might
find it offensive.  And if I don't know whether or not they do or
not...then I just don't use it.  You wouldn't want me to come into
your house and use it in front of your family.

<snip>

It sounds quite ambiguous. Do I read correctly the situation you imply:
"If you jumped in a real WRC car with random setup and tyre choice and
spend 10 minutes behind the wheel, you'd realize that the car handles
awfully"? I'd say if RBR naturally emulates this experience, it's a good
thing.

This quote worths saving :)

Yes, but this isn't your family. This is Usenet - kinda like the real
home of free expression, no matter how ugly it gets. People get to say
whatever they want here, and your value systems aren't necessarily the
same as theirs or ours.
Besides, many words much much worse than '***' have been known to have
been used on Usenet (I know, hard to believe, but true nonetheless).

you like realistic graphics and sound, and unrealistic ***, so stick
with cmr.  doesn't mean rbr is shit, just that you're not up to it.
