Can't wait to get my new PIII 600, 27gig hd, 128ram, 3dfx 3500, SB Live.

To replace my PII 400, should make N3 and GPL fly......

Was this to "humble" everyone that can't afford better systems like you can?

Congrats on the new toy!
I'm close to ordering a new system as well.  Hoping ram prices will
drop a bit, but am getting tired of waiting. :-)
What motherboard did you go with?  Also, let me know how the 3500
works out, I'm either going with the 3500 or the 3000.  I want the
3500, but thought I read of a few driver problems they hadn't worked
out yet?

Nice system...too bad, however, that you didn't get the K7-600..cheaper and
a better *** PC than the Intel (in fact, it blows the socks off the
PIII600)...but your new toy should work just fine...

a) according to pricewatch there is a 200 dollar difference between a P3-600
and a 700 mhz Athlon. So much for "cheaper".
b) huge supply quanities are not out yet
c) you also have to purchase another motherboard, roughly $150 for a good
board there.  So that makes the difference ~350.
d) if you had said 600mhz Athlon, you might have been right on target

Shortage of highest quality capacity, typhoons and floods causing
leadframe shortages, earthquake taking down plants in Taiwan, shortage
of top-quality raw-silicon wafers, quartware shortages - don't hold
your breath....

It'll come back down again, but it doesn't look like anytime soon.
Still, if there's one thing the market is it's unpredictable - you may
see $4 64 megs again next week!

Cheers!
John
