RBR demo: how to setup M$ FFB ?

by Ed Solhei » Mon, 04 Oct 2004 16:28:59

Hi guys...   long time no see.

Just testing out the demo...  but I cant seem to get my controller to work
properly...
My AL pebals took a dumb so I'm stuck with my old MS wheel and pedals..

Anyone know how to set this thing up properly - pref with split axis if
thats possible...

Right now all I get is the throttle pedal "working" at 50% all the time...

I'm gonna give the old deadzone trick a go.. but somethi9ng tells me theres
more to it than that..

Anyone got a sound advice to offer?

I had no problems with my MSFF gameport wheel. I set it to split axis in teh
sidewinder software, and RBR just recognised it.

Maybe you need ot be more specific with your question?

Oh, wait, I've got the full game, though.

Ed,

you have to have the "sidewinder" software installed (you see it when you
play with the controls via the control panel, game controllers/devices or
joystics.  In there you need to set the wheel to seperate pedals and stuff.
Then launch the game...  by now you prolly have to redoo the detection of
the controllers?  or delete some file in RBR.  RBR if I read correctly reads
the joydevice, & if present trys to untick the "combined pedals"...  if you
dont have the control panel app running then nothing can see the other
pedals, because windows won't know how to see the pedals that were "forced"
to seperate?

try that, anyway

Problem is that since I got the old MSFFB wheel - there not much for me to
control in the control panel or sidewinder SW. Under WinXP - newer versions
of the SW software wont support  old gameport versions of the wheel
(%"&&%"# Microsoft BASTARDS!!!!) so I cannot make profiles or control
axis...

The deadzone thing did help tho - so can now now drive it.. but just barely
as the deadzone is wacko big...

Stick with W98SE, that's what I'm doing until my MSFF dies.

sound advice if you ask me. Win98SE is a great "OS" for ***, and
I'll be sticking with it until the first major racing sim of interest
which requires something else (let's hope it's Linux ;-).

If you look for stability, security and efficiency for your
productivity environment, check out Linux or MacOS. I never understood
why the gameport support was dropped or turned as bad as it is with
the newer windows versions.

All the best, uwe

I personally think XP is very stable, solid, and good for *** as well. I
have been running it since Dec of 01, first with XP Home, and for the last
18 months or so with XP Pro, updated to SP2.
I don't think I have had a single system crash with XP yet.

However, all of my *** periphs are usb, so I don't have to worry with
gameport issues. I really like the simplicity of plugging in the usb
connectors, I have a 4 port powered hub set up on my desk for easy access.
