F1 2000 frame rate(Again!!)

by chim » Fri, 05 May 2000 04:00:00

I have a K6-2 550, and a 64MB ATI Rage Fury MAXX and 64MB of RAM

quite frankly the frame rate sucks

I have noticed one thing though. The cause of my problems is the
hard disk. every time the light flickers on the HD, the game
starts to jump.
My friend has a PII 400 an ATI AIW and 96MB of RAM and it runs
fine!!!

Surely a mear 32MB can't account for this difference in
perfomance???

I don't know for sure whether it makes a big difference in F1 2000, since
i've never ran it on a 64 MB machine, but 64 MB isn't really enough for a
lot of modern games.
Also the K6-2 has a poor FPU, and a K6-2 550 would still be slower than a
P2-400 for 3d games.  I presume you've checked that your friend isn't
running the game with lower detail settings.
I think another 64 MB (or even 32) would be worth getting anyway.

If your hard drive is flickering, then windows is trying access the
swap file.  Which means yes indeed you have run out of memory.  Try
shutting down all extra programs and giving it a go...but in today's
market...128megs should be considered the MINIMUM if you  want to run
newer sims properly.

F1 2000 frame rate(Again!!)

Could be the CPU.
From the System Requirements section of the reference card that comes with
the game:
"Note: Some non-Intel processors may not run equivalent to the processor
rating of Intel processors. For example, a non-Intel 233MHz processor may
only run at the equivalent of an Intel 188MHz processor and therefore may
not run F1 2000 properly"

Also:
Choppy or stuttering video or audio
"These problems may be improved by adjusting the CD ROM read ahead cache."

There are a number of hints in the booklet, may be worth a glance through
it, or as some may say RTFM ;)

I just re-read what I posted, I think it may have sounded a little
sarcastic. I assure you it wasn't meant that way.
