That the macros sounds that everyone raves about are actually NT 2002 engine
sounds that everyone bagged... interesting :). Just my 2 cents on the engine
noise, especially the NGT cars is that they may distort on tv due to wind
noise, buffeting and microphone distortion but i would SERIOUSLY doubt
(because you cant tell how the engine is revving) that any of the real life
drivers would accept the car if it actually sounded like they do at high
revs.... it really sounds like the microphone was put out in the wind when
the sounds were recorded

It has been mentioned... I don't see the irony. Winston Cup cars don't sound
like a "macros" (sic ;-)), so those sounds were wrong for the original game.

How does a 750hp naturally aspirated small block revving to 9000rpm with
13.5:1 compression running on *** sound then? :) From the coverage on TV
when the commentators shut up during the in-car views i'd say NT 2002 is
pretty accurate when it comes to in-car sound (thats about it). Papy  has
the external sounds sorted out tho :)

NASCAR doesn't allow *** in fuel. ;-)  It normal high octane leaded gas.

I just like that the F360 sound is the Ferrari V12 from GPL distorted
into near-nonsense.

The reason the sounds in the mod are such ***is because of the
digital clipping.  It's the ugliest, most unnatural form of
distortion, and I'm surprised so many people are gaga about the
sounds.  I could see maybe using a tube simulator if they wanted to
crank the gain up, or better yet simply normalizing the sounds to 0db
RMS power using a tool like sound forge that will automatically apply
compression to keep the sound from acquiring digital distortion, but
just cutting the peaks of the waveforms off digitally sounds horrible.
Even on my low-end Labtec speakers the sound is choppy and full of
static all throughout the frequency band.

Geeze you'd think people would know what 76 is by now. =)

Neither Nascar, nor FIA GT run on ***, but that's besides the point.

Perhaps the sound looses something in the TV standard translation, but from
what I get to see here I'd say the NT2002 sounds are closer to the RL Marcos
sound than the stock car sound. Perception is a weird thing.

I've been driving the F550 lately.  It's got a fair amount of clipping in
the***pit sounds and if I listen for the clipping it sure is quite
annoying.  But if I actually concentrate on driving instead of wearing my
audiophile cap, I find that the sounds give a real sense of driving an
untamed beast and compliment the driving wonderfully.  I agree that you just
can't have nice 'clean' sounds in a game like this.  But for those that are
bothered by it, I guess you could use the sound files from the FIAGT V3 mod.

Same as Ratbag stealing the famous screaming GPL modified Ferrari sound for
their Sprint game.

Really?  How did you discover that?

I only noticed the F360 was a GPL sound because they left that
information in the .wav header. =)

I had it, I recorded the sound from inside the Ratbag game and compared it
with Cool Edit with the GPL sound.  It was the same base, with little
modification.

It reminds me of the first teaser trailer for the movie Driven, the
background sound was a MP3 that many of us have, which is the Williams F1
testing (the one that you hear much crickets and insects in the background
when there's no engines).

No, I once posted the comparison over on the other NG back in the days and
it was agreed it was the same.  Btw if it was LEADFOOT, not Dirt Track
Racing.  Sorry there.  Looking at Google, I did that around 2001.  Other
people agreed with me even on r.a.s.

And the, in the year 2000, I had another "Ratbag" moment when I loaded DTRSC
and found that the base sound for it was taken from NASCAR RACING 1 by
Papyrus.  It's no bollocks.

Where can I find that MP3?  Thanks.
